Hello, everyone.
I would like to see an Equipmenthttp://wikimedia.or.ke/index.php?title=Equipment&action=edit&redlink=1 page on the wikimedia.or.ke wiki, tracking movement-funded equipment, such as the two projectors and screens used in the Schools pilot. The group needs to be transparent about where those are and how to request them for use in Wikimedia activity. Please document this soon. Thanks.
Cheers,
Asaf
I will do so when I get back to Nairobi. FYI -- Steve/Oscar have one projector and screen; I have another projector; while Branton has a screen with him. /Abbas.

Hi, Isaac.
Wikimedia.or.ke is not operated by the Foundation, but generously hosted on our friend Manuel Schneider's private server. Therefore, it does not have the universal log-ins.
I have just created an account for you with your Kipsizoo user name. You should have received an e-mail to pick a password etc.

Thanks for thinking of this, David! Do you have an exact date? Who owns the domain, technically? I seem to recall it was paid for by WMCH? But who is the registered owner?
I'm looking into the possibility of having the WMF take ownership and just add it to the domains it maintains, so this group doesn't have to worry about this any more. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for thinking of this, David! Do you have an exact date?
expiration date is January 4th 2012.
Who owns the domain, technically?
Registrant, Admin-C, Tech-C and Billing-C is David Mugo.
The domain points to my (Master's SYSTEMS) nameservers which hold the domain's authoritative zone.
I seem to recall it was paid for by WMCH? But who is the registered owner?
I have transfered the money for the domain fee via Paypal to David and got reimbursed by Wikimedia CH after I received the invoice from David.
So the invoice from the registry was issued to David and he also made the payment to them, while the money was finally paid by WMCH.
I'm looking into the possibility of having the WMF take ownership and just add it to the domains it maintains, so this group doesn't have to worry about this any more. I'll keep you posted.
If that would have been possible I'd have done it through my company in the first place as I hold most of the European Wikimedia domain names.
We have to go through David / Wikimedia Kenya as KENIC only accepts entities based in Kenya as contacts.
Apart from that I strongly support chapters dealing with their domains on their own as far as they are capable of doing so. That's why I deal with most of that stuff. Managing domains through WMF is a pain in the neck and I have seen several domains being lost / stolen from WMF for various reasons. While this may have improved since Rob is dealing with this I know that still some domains are owned by WMF but registered with several registrars WMF doesn't know how to manage them.
/Manuel
Ah!
Thanks, Manuel, for the detailed and clear explanation! I really appreciate it. Now that you reminded me, I do remember the Kenic problem. So, by all means, let Wikimedia Kenya take care of this. I suggest that WMKE add a budget item for, say, a five-year extension of the domain name, to the grant request[1].
Cheers,
Asaf
