culture- new contributors and voices are especially encouraged to join!
The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public
Library, working with the AfroCROWD initiative, is hosting a successor to
last year's Black Life Matters Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, to contribute to
articles on Wikipedia for the national Black WikiHistory Month outreach
campaign.
Event: 'Black Life Matters' Wikipedia Edit-a-thon @ NYPL Schomburg Center
for Research in Black Culture
Date: Saturday February 6th, 2015
Address: 515 Malcolm X Boulevard (Lenox Avenue) between West 135th and
136th Streets, Harlem, New York
Time: 12 noon-5 pm (drop-in any time!)
A reception will follow the event at 5 pm.
The Wikipedia training and Edit-a-thon will take place in the Aaron Douglas
Reading Room of the Jean Blackwell Hutson Research and Reference Division,
with a following reception in the Langston Hughes lobby on the first floor
of the building.
In addition to new people, we also need some volunteers to help with
hands-on training during the event!

**This month, we will also host a Newcomer's Wiki Workshop for those who
want to get started on the project!**
We will also include a continued look at our annual plan and budget ideas,
and welcome input from community members on the sorts of projects the
chapter should support through both volunteer and budgetary efforts.
We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement
and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing
free knowledge projects. We will also follow up on plans for recent and

to the lives and works of black artists.
Hosted at The Museum of Modern Art Library in celebration of Jean-Michel
Basquiat’s 55th birthday and in partnership with Afrocrowd, NYU Africana
Studies Program, Black Lunch Table, and Basquiat: Still Fly @ 55, this
meetup will focus on closing the multicultural and gender gaps in Wikipedia.

In conjunction with Archtober and New York Archives Week, the Guggenheim
will host its third Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance
articles related to women in architecture on Wikipedia. The Guggenheim aims
to further the goals of Ada Lovelace Day for STEM, and Art+Feminism for
art, in a field that, by its nature combines both.
The Guggenheim will work alongside ArchiteXX, the founders of WikiD: Women
Wikipedia Design #wikiD, the international education and advocacy program
working to increase the number of Wikipedia articles on women in
architecture and the built environment. Both new and experienced editors
are welcome.
