Subject: [Wikimediaus-l] WikiCon North America 2024: Scholarship apps +
program submissions now open!
To: Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States (WALRUS) <
wikimediaus-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello,
WikiConference North America is excited to share that the 2024 conference
will be taking place in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States! Our annual
Culture Crawl will take place on October 3, followed by conference
programming from October 4-6. Our theme will be "Crossroads", inspired by
the Indiana state motto and also alluding to the multiple meanings of the
word—as the place where Wikimedians from across the continent cross paths,
as well as what we hope will be a turning point for participants.
Please visit the conference website for more information:
https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2024/Main_Page
If you are interested in attending, please read on for scholarship
information and program submissions.
We are now accepting scholarship applications through May 31. Any active
Wikimedian in North America is eligible to apply to have their travel
and/or accommodations covered for the event. If interested, please visit
https://scholarships.wcna.wiki to apply.
We are also accepting program submissions through May 31. If you'd like to
submit a lecture, panel, roundtable, workshop, lightning talk, or other
meetup, please visit https://submissions.wcna.wiki.
For those interested in attending, registration will be opening soon, and
you will receive another email when it does. For your reference, pricing
will be identical to last year. Individual tickets are $25, and
professional tickets for those attending on behalf of a company or
organization are $100. All proceeds will go towards this and future
WikiConference North America events. We will also offer free tickets to
enable everyone to participate regardless of financial constraints.
If you plan to travel to the conference from outside of the United States,
please review entry requirements through the U.S. Visa portal (
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resour…).
Document applications and renewals can take a while during this busy travel
season, so you're encouraged to check them now!
If you have any questions, please reach out to the team at
info(a)wikiconference.org. You can also chat with organizers and attendees in
our Telegram group at https://chat.wcna.wiki/.
Thank you!
On behalf of the WCNA organizing team,
Kevin Payravi (User:SuperHamster)

Hello Windy-city Wikimedians,
I'm Ziski from the Foundation's Global Advocacy team. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the wonderful members of this user group and am a big fan of the work you're doing to diversify the knowledge represented across Wiki projects. I wanted to share that our team's monthly conversation hour will focus on privacy, which is also integral to a vibrant movement. You're warmly invited!
The call is on Sept. 24 & 29th and includes speakers like Pepe Flores (WM Mexico). All details including how to add to the agenda can be found on on Meta [1]. Please feel free to share with your network.
Even if you can't make this one, we hope to see you at future calls.
Warmly,
Ziski

Dear Windy City Wikimedians,
I'm Ziski from the Global Advocacy & Public Policy team. I wanted to personally invite you to our first-ever monthly conversation hours. The call is on July 1 at 16h EST. All information you need to participate is on this Meta page [1].
The agenda is split between a dedicated theme for the month and whatever items you wish to cover. This month we will share some of our work on disinformation. There is no set agenda for the second half of the call - feel free to add your item to the list of topics in the etherpad [2]. Come and talk to us! Ask us anything, or tell us anything, related to public policy and advocacy initiatives for free knowledge online. For example:
* You want to learn more about our team and our current initiatives
* You would like to share a policy development or advocacy campaign idea and would like to get feedback or support
* You have questions about a specific WMF policy priority or development
Hope to see you there... or at the next one!
Ziski, on behalf of the Global Advocacy team
