On the topic of:
http://wikimedia.in/wiki/Projects:GLAM_2011/Bangalore_Feb2011, my
suggestion is to involve the NGMA Bangalore, an exciting and beautiful
arts space with a large auditorium, canteen and spacious grounds - in
other words, a good place to hold a meeting.
http://ngmaindia.gov.in/ngma_bangaluru.asp
The organisations listed here
http://wikimedia.in/wiki/Projects:GLAM_2011/Bangalore_Feb2011/Planning
are maybe too numerous? In any case, an event at NGMA can be arranged;
i.e. a session where NGMA themselves and Wikipedians from the city are
equally exposed to the kinds of work that could happen with/inside a
museum. I think this will be a nice change from the usual CIS type
meetup that happens and also provide us with a new venue/work contact.
Anyone interested in this? General ideas welcome. Comments and
participation on the planing pages are thin and I thought this might
help. Some advance planning probably nec.
Cheers,
Achal
Hi all,
A relatively new Wikipedian sent me the personal mail
below. Initially I thought I will reply him privately, but later I decided
that my reply may possibly help someone else on the list, if at all, and
hence sending to the list. I have removed person's details for anonymity
but bccing him in this mail. I am also taking a small liberty to use his
mail.
Dear Wikipedian,
Before I try to clear your misunderstandings , I want to share
with you about my own experience. There was a time, very very long back,
when I even decided to quit Wikipedia because "my" article was marked for
deletion , and after a heated deletion discussion and lo, "my article" was
GONE ! I ,then , never understood the complexity of the establishment called
"Wikipedia" . I was tired, frustrated and angry like you! I cribbed that
Wikipedia admins and other "self proclaimed experts" are stupid aliens who
are out there to block Indians editing Wikipedia.
Ok, I took a small break then and later came back again investigating what
possibly went wrong. I have been mentored by several veteran Wikipedians. I
asked for advice and help whenever i was confused. And here I am now , with
52,000+ edits and an administrator on English Wikipedia.
Let us try to humbly explain what went wrong in your case.
Before that, a big thank you for creating 5 articles to Wikipedia. Good job
!
Unfortunately, we easily get irritated when somebody removes content that we
have added, it is just human nature.. But remember that all Wikipedia
content is open to being edited collaboratively. No one, no matter how
skilled, has the right to act as if they are the owner of a particular
article. If you are not willing to see that the information that you added
is mercilessly removed, altered & changed, ...never edit Wikipedia :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:OWN
Talking about the content suitable for an article on Wikipedia, first and
foremost, we should remember , Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Forgotten, the
five pillars of Wikipedia ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Five_pillars
So what would you like to see on an encyclopedia ? Definitely not,
information about ATM, medical stores, hostels, eateries , medical stores
etc, which you had tried to add to the article on a place. (I have checked
your edit history) These information is definitely useful, I agree, but they
find a better place on a city guide than an encyclopedia.
Remember that Wikipedia is not a web directory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_n…
and
also there is a difference between List articles with normal articles.
Arguments and differences of opinion on content on Wikipedia is natural.
Even now, there are times when I get personally very pissed off. :) But we
need to remind us a few things often : Observing Civility :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Civility and How to build a consensus
: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Consensus
I can see, that there are lots of good and encyclopedic information that you
have already added to Wikipedia. Excellent !
But I am happy to mentor and guide you more on Wikipedia.
I seriously wish that you would return back to Wikipedia and contribute
more.
Happy Editing !
Regards
Tinu Cherian

Wikipedia celebrated its 10th anniversary on 15th January 11.
The Wiki enthusiasts in Mysore organised a meet up on the 16th of Jan 2011
to commemorate this occasion.
http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysore
Also we had a plan to have Wikipedia Photowalk.
So on 30th January we've organised a Photowalk here in Mysore.
The locations planned to cover is city center (Palace, Town hall, etc)
We'll meet near Chikka Gadiyaara (Vasavi vircle) [near south gate of Devraja

Dear Wikimedians,
It's a pleasure to inform you all that Liam
Wyatt<http://www.wittylama.com/>will be visiting India between 12th
and 19th Feb to focus on
GLAM <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GLAM_(industry_sector)>related
initiatives here.
Liam's visit to India is intended to support wikimedia communities to
explore the possibilities of collaborating with Galleries, Libraries,
Archives and Museums (GLAM) in strengthening articles on wikipedia of mutual
interest.
Liam recently became a Wikimedia Fellow -
http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2011/01/19/announcing-our-glam-fellow-liam-w…
Liam was the wikipedian in
residence<http://blog.wikimedia.org/blog/2010/07/10/the-royal-cup-bridges-wikipedia-a…>
at
the British Museum last year. Liam has been focussed on GLAM and was
the convener of the GLAM-WIKI
<http://www.wikimedia.org.au/wiki/GLAM-WIKI>event held in Australia in
August
2009.
It is great to have Liam visiting us. He will be visiting Delhi, Mumbai and
Bangalore. We hope to make the most of Liam's visit to create more awareness
for GLAM amongst wikipedians and connect with GLAM stakeholders wherever
possible.
Liam will also be speaking at the
ICLAM<http://www.nift.ac.in/ICLAM_2011/index.htm>conference on the
15th.
For coordinating events during his visit, I have create a GLAM project page
on the India wiki, to help us all get started:
http://wikimedia.in/wiki/Projects:GLAM_2011
There are city specific pages, each of which has a planning page.
We look forward to all your support and active participation to organize
events and meeting in various cities. Wikipedians are requested to join the
discussions in the planning pages for each city. .

Also, a note about the Wikipedia loves Bangalore #1:
We had an overwhelming response to the last edition with hundreds of photos
coming in. We're in the process of sorting out this huge number of photos to
upload the best ones to commons (as there are redundant ones of the same).
Volunteers are invited and are most welcome to take part in the selection
process as well. Please write back to me off-the-list for this.
