Hello,
I'm pleased to announce that Wikimedia DC will be holding an election of
our Board of Directors over the course of the next six weeks. The Board is
responsible for managing the business affairs of the organization in
accordance with the Bylaws. If you are interested in regional Wikimedia
outreach, I encourage you to run for the Board.
Members are elected to the Board each year in a staggered pattern. This
year, we will be electing four directors for two-year terms.
Full details regarding the election, including instructions for candidates
and voters, are available on our website at
http://wikimediadc.org/wiki/Internal:Board_election_(2014). A summary of
some key points:
(1) Candidates and voters must be current members of Wikimedia DC to
participate in the election. If you haven't renewed your membership from
last year, you will need to do so by September 1. For more information on
paying member dues, see http://wikimediadc.org/wiki/Membership.
(2) Candidates must submit their nomination package, including
certifications of eligibility, mandatory disclosures, and candidate
statements, to the Election Committee by September 1.
(3) Ballots will be distributed on September 2. Voters who wish to request
electronic ballots must do so by September 1; the same deadline applies to
voters who will be receiving paper ballots and wish to update their mailing
address.
(4) All completed ballots -- whether paper or electronic -- must be
received by close-of-business September 30 in order to be counted.
Please send any questions regarding the election to the Election Committee
at election(a)wikimediadc.org.
On behalf of the Election Committee,
Kirill Lokshin

Multiple aid organizations, including the Red Cross, have deployed medical teams to identified sites in Sierra Leone and Liberia, and additional detailed base map data is needed to assist in the response. We will focus on mapping the Joru area, covering parts of southeastern Sierra Leone and western Liberia.

All volunteers are welcome. RSVPs to either this calendar invite or the MeetUp event are appreciated. If you can't make it in person, you can map the task with us on any computer with internet access.

We quickly saw the benefits of our edits - the Red Cross was able to print a city atlas of the Kenema area less than a week later. Together we can make a difference.
