DC Meetup #22 will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1pm at the
Martin Luther King Jr. DC Public Library <http://dclibrary.org/mlk>, in our
Library Lab space.
The meetup will be an opportunity for us to brainstorm and discuss outreach
and project ideas that the Wiki Society of Washington, DC (soon-to-be
official Wikimedia DC chapter) can help support. Learn how to get involved
with the chapter and help out.

Digital Capital Week is happening this year November 4-11. --
http://digitalcapitalweek.org/
This includes a big series of tech events, and free culture / information
definitely fits in the scope. I think this is a great opportunity to help
get the word out more and for us to connect with folks in DC.
Is there interest for us to organize any event(s) during Digital Capital
Week? If so, what do you have in mind or would like to see happen?
This Fall, we'll be running the Library Lab at the MLK library (
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/LibLabs -- volunteers still needed), and I
expect we'll continue working with NARA and the Smithsonian in some
capacity. We could certainly schedule one or more events centered on these
ongoing initiatives, and/or something new.
Ideas? Thoughts?
Cheers,
Katie

The Chapters Committee has officially approved The Wiki Society of
Washington, DC as a Wikimedia chapter! (resolution below)
Thank you to chapcom for working with us through the process and
everyone with the chapter who helped out as we got established and for
supporting us.
Chapcom has recommended some changes in our bylaws that we should
consider.
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_District_of_Columbia/Bylaws
The chapcom recommedation goes to the WMF board for their (rubber
stamp) approval and then we are official.
Cheers,
Katie

[edit]Chapters Committee Advice
Whereas,
The Wiki Society of Washington, DC Inc. has requested to be recognized
as sub-national chapter under the name Wikimedia Washington DC, the
Bylaws have been reviewed by the Chapters Committee, and the group of
participants in the candidate chapter seems viable:
The Chapters Committee hereby advises that the Board of Trustees
recognize the existing organization The Wiki Society of Washington, DC
Inc., founded on 7 May 2011, as a Wikimedia Chapter under the name
Wikimedia Washington DC and grant it interim permission to use the
Wikimedia trademarks pending the signing of a Chapters Agreement.
[edit]Proposed Board Resolution
In accordance with the recommendation of the Chapters Committee,
confirming that the structure and bylaws of Wikimedia District of
Columbia comply with the current requirements and guidelines for
future chapters, it is hereby resolved that:
The Board of Trustees provisionally recognizes Wikimedia District of
Columbia as a Wikimedia Chapter and grants it permission to use the
Wikimedia trademarks, pending signature of a Chapters Agreement. This
provisional recognition and permission will expire in one year unless
a Chapters Agreement is signed, at which point recognition and
trademark use will be governed by the terms of the Agreement for as
long as it is in force. The provisional period may be extended at the
discretion of the Foundation's Executive Director.
There were procedural issues around the approval process and because
of that WM DC should address in reasonable amount of time concerns
raised at [1] in cooperation with Chapters committee.

Hi everyone,
In preparation for our upcoming annual meeting, and the elections scheduled
to take place at that time, the Board of Directors of the Wiki Society of
Washington, DC Inc. will be appointing an Election Committee, which will be
responsible for ensuring the eligibility of candidates, preparing ballots,
and counting votes.
We are looking for two volunteers to fill the open seats on this committee.
The volunteers will not be able to stand for election to the Board while
they are serving on the committee, so please don't volunteer if you intend
to be a candidate in the upcoming election.
If you are interested in volunteering, please send me an email containing
your (real) name and a note to that effect.
Thanks,
Kirill

I'm super delighted to see great interest in helping them. :)
User:MichChemGSI, a campus ambassador, is doing initial follow-up with the
person and we'll see what they want.
I think if this works like any of the GLAM collaborations, we'll need a
bunch of folks involved to help, we might be able to do a workshop(s) for
them, etc.
Stay tuned....
Cheers,
Katie

If you are at all interested in cultural and GLAM outreach, I invite you to
subscribe to a new regional mailing list on the topic:
http://lists.wikimedia.ch/listinfo/glam-north-america
It's a place to discuss and share about projects and coordinate outreach.
Right now, there's an abundance of opportunities for Wikipedians to work
with and help well-respected institutions get involved with Wikipedia!
Please come join the mailing list to find out more and get involved.
Cheers,
Katie

Someone at the National Research Council, which encompasses the National
Academy of Sciences and other institutions, contacted me on my talk page and
is interested in getting involved with Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Aude#National_Research_Council_Colla…
I think that would be terrific to help them get involved, but I'm pretty
busy with other things at the moment. Who is interested in helping with this
and perhaps taking the lead on this? I'm happy to support however I can.
Cheers,
Katie
