Saturday is open house day at the European embassies in DC! Who all is
interested in doing some pre-meetup touring of the embassies?
Depending on the interest, we could:
1) meet at Dupont Circle in the morning (9:45-10am) and tour 15 embassies
along and around Embassy Row, all together as a single group.
2) we could organize it into a Wikis Take the Embassies sort of thing, split
up into groups and cover more embassies with us going around getting photos,
including the interior of the embassies and the outside (some embassy
articles can use better photos, some don't have any!). One group could
cover Embassy Row and the other group cover the embassies in/around
Georgetown (Spain, Sweden, France, Germany)
3) if time allows or we want a third group, we could hit some of the
embassies (Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic) near Van
Ness/Tenleytown in the afternoon before the meetup.
Wiki Takes ___ events are sometimes competitive, and we could to that, but
not necessary and I'm in favor of it being non-competitive.

I'm adding a signup place on our meetup page for these.

(oh, and Wikis Take the Embassies Part II could be the following weekend,
May 14, when the non-EU embassies do their open house. Any interest?)

Together with Liam Wyatt, Sarah Stierch, and other Wikipedians, we've been
thinking how to facilitate more and better collaborations with cultural
institutions.
As the campus ambassadors program has gone well, some of the ideas might
transfer well, having online and "campus" / GLAM ambassadors help train and
mentor GLAM institution staff about contributing to Wikipedia, facilitate
content donations (e.g. photos), etc.
In DC, there has been tremendous interest, from the Smithsonian, National
Archives, Library of Congress, US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and more. This
is fabulous! but we need to recruit more GLAM ambassador folks.
We're still thinking about how these roles could work and welcome input:

Also, Liam is organizing GLAMCamp NYC the weekend of May 20-22 and have room
for ~2-3 or so Wikipedians from DC to join. It's a working meeting to think
through and discuss the GLAM ambassador idea, improve documentation,
tech/tool needs, and other things.

Anyone who is interested in being a GLAM ambassador (or just helping out)
and/or attending GLAMcamp NYC, please let me know.
Cheers,
Katie
