Wikimedia Australia and First Nations Metadata
A new discussion paper was recently released to help understand how the Wikimedia movement could better support First Nations content, data, and contributors on Wikimedia platforms and beyond. The paper Wikimedia Australia and First Nations Metadata: ATSILIRN Protocols for Description and Access https://opus.lib.uts.edu.au/handle/10453/166700 was funded by Wikimedia Australia and undertaken by the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education & Research. Wikidata Fellowship Announced
Congratulations to Alistair Kwan, Brodie Hoare, and Mike Dickison. In partnership with Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand, this year to offer three fellowships of $1000 to curate a data set, develop a prototype or undertake an investigation using Wikidata. State Library of Queensland now has pre-formatted Wikipedia citations
You can create Wikipedia citations directly from the State Library of Queensland catalogue https://onesearch.slq.qld.gov.au/. On the catalogue page, click the citation button, click Wikipedia, and the citation will be created automatically. Hopefully this will make adding citations easier for everyone.

Australian Music Centre - Wikipedia edit-a-thon - Thursday 4 May 3pm AEST
Wikimedia Australia and the Australian Music Centre are hosting an online Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to create or improve articles about Australian art music creators. In this Wikipedia edit-a-thon, we will be focusing on First Nations, art music creators, jazz creators, and screen composers. No experience required! Next Community Meeting - Wednesday 10 May 7pm AEST
Our monthly community meetings are open to everyone. Next month will have a short presentation updating you on what Wikimedia Australia has been up to, followed by an open discussion to hear from the community. Goddess Wikipedia Edit-a-thon - Friday 12 May 10am and 2pm
Join us at ACMI in Melbourne to learn how to improve the representation of Australian women and non-binary creators online with the help of the Wikimedia Australia team. We’ll show you how to edit Wikipedia and improve articles about the Australian women and gender-transcending superstars of cinema featured in ACMI's Goddess: Power, Glamour, Rebellion exhibition.
