WikiCon 2023 Brisbane
Wikimedia Australia is delighted to announce our WikiCon 2023

Brisbane on 18 November 2023! We invite anyone interested in open knowledge
and meeting fellow Wikimedians to join us for an exciting program covering
all things Wiki. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts, as we
cover some of the latest developments, tools and projects that our
Australian community are undertaking on Wikipedia, Wikidata, WikiCommons,
WikiSource and other Wiki platforms.
Date: Saturday 18 November 2023

Flickypedia - seamless CC image sharing from Flickr to WikiCommons
A new partnership between the Flickr Foundation and the Wikimedia
Foundation will develop a new software tool for streamlined sharing of
CC-licensed images from Flickr to Wikimedia Commons. This collaboration
strengthens the visual resources on Wikipedia by harnessing Flickr's vast
Creative Commons collection, enriching content for Wikipedia users and

Biodiversity Heritage Library Wikimedia white paper
The world is at a critical point, requiring urgent action to address
climate change, biodiversity loss, and secure a sustainable future. The
recent Biodiversity Heritage Library Wikimedia white paper, titled Unifying
Biodiversity Knowledge to Support Life on a Sustainable Planet

for the Biodiversity Heritage Library community to contribute to Wikimedia
projects and the semantic web.

Announcing the locations of Wikimania 2025 and 2026
A cradle of history, biodiversity, art and architecture, and a hub for
intergovernmental collaboration, technology, and so much more, East Africa
is full of possibilities for Wikimedia. Wikimania 2025 will be hosted
by a dynamic
collaboration

volunteers and affiliates in East Africa. The 2026 Wikimania will be hosted
in Paris by Wikimédia France in partnership with WikiFranca

association bringing together francophone individuals and groups in the
movement. This will be the first Wikimania in France and a first for the
global collaboration of French-speaking Wikimedia communities. Read more
