Thanks again for all of your great work with Wiki Loves Public Art 2013!
We at Wikimedia Sverige are considering to organize the contest again in 2014 and I am wondering if there is interest from the teams that took part this year to organize the contest again in your countries? You can either simply use existing lists or expand to more cities.
I believe that we have proven the concept as we had thousands of artworks successfully digitized and hence digitally preserved them for the future and shared them with the world, a good amount of new and old volunteers participated and we also had a good deal of media attention. With all this said, I really hope that we can do it again!
Please let me know your plans and ideas!
Best,
John

Hi John,
thanks for your support with WLPA - it was a pleasure collaborate on this.
WMAT's board and staff discussed the future of WLPA lately and although we are happy with this year's results, we are not sure whether we will participate again for several reasons.
The three main reasons are:
- No available open data for other cities in Austria - Not a lot of modern artwork compared to other countries (it was hard to compete in the international contest) - Besides WLPA, we can do one more photo contest per year. Everything else would be too much. There are some other interesting options (e.g. Wiki Loves Earth) for photo contests, that we consider at the moment.
Therefore, we can't commit to another edition of WLPA in 2014 at the moment.
Best Claudia

Hi Claudia!
It was great working with you and the rest of the Austrian team as well! You all did a great job. So I'll keep my fingers crossed that you manage to identify some more open data from other cities and easily can participate again (now when you have templates and routines all prepared).
And for the record, I personally think that Austria had some really fantastic images :-).
Best,
John

Hi, John. I enjoyed participating in WLPA. As you know, right now we are engaged with WLM starting in a few days. It is too early for making plans for 2014. WLM is a mature contest in Spain and Catalonia and probably we won't repeat it next year. WLPA is a nice alternative for going on, but we can not make any decision after finishing WLM 2013 edition and knowing future plans for photo contests like WLEarth or alike. Let's wait till December.
