Hi folx!
I’m Jon Amar[1] and I’m wildly excited to be the new WMDE Product Manager
for Wikibase Suite. This is such an extraordinary movement, and Linked Open
Data has a very special role to play in enabling more people to freely
share in the sum of all knowledge. How cool that we all get to be involved!
Wikibase Suite, along with Wikibase Cloud and Wikidata, is one of the three
pieces that make up our work for the Wikibase Ecosystem. Wikibase Suite is
what we call the self-install version of Wikibase, a platform that many of
you already have a rich history with. My colleagues and I have a lot of
learning and listening to do to understand how we can best contribute to
Wikibase, so that we can build a more equitable and sustainable Linked Open
Data ecosystem.
We’re currently working on building up our capacity on the Wikibase Suite
team and getting to parity with the Mediawiki release cycle. As we work on
synthesizing the feedback we’ve received from you so far, I am keen to
continue to connect with you and to listen and learn from you. What gets
you excited about Linked Open Data? What challenges are you facing to make
the most out of this platform? What fruitful areas can we focus on that a
self-install version of Wikibase is particularly well suited for? I’m all
ears, so please reach out to me (jon.amar(a)wikimedia.de). We’ll also be
reaching out over various channels over the next months, and I’d love to
hear from you there as well.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you and finding opportunities to
learn and collaborate together.
Warm regards,
Jon Amar (they/them)

Dear Wikibase Community,
There is something we would like to share with you. :- )
We hereby announce that the Wikibase 2022 Release for MediaWiki 1.37 has
been published https://releases.wikimedia.org/wikibase/1.37 and on Docker
Hub <https://hub.docker.com/u/wikibase>.
You can find the links to important documentation related to the release

Updating your Wikibase
<https://github.com/wmde/wikibase-release-pipeline/blob/main/docs/topics/upg…>
(Docker)
This new release brings Wikibase and other components of the Wikibase Suite
to a version compatible with MediaWiki 1.37.
Please note that, for technical reasons, Federated Properties
<https://doc.wikimedia.org/Wikibase/REL1_35/php/md_docs_components_repo_fede….>
are disabled and not available in this release. Users who have used
experimental Federated Properties functionality in previous versions will
not see their properties after the update, and might encounter some
unexpected technical glitches. A new experimental Federated Properties
version will be included in the next Wikibase Suite release, compatible
with Mediawiki 1.38.
This release is only compatible with PHP 7.2-7.4. Specifically, this
version will not work in systems running PHP 8 and newer.
Please note that Mediawiki 1.37 is expected to become end-of-life and
receive support from its maintainers with the release of Mediawiki 1.39,
expected to happen in November. We will shortly release another Wikibase
Suite version, compatible with Mediawiki 1.38, and we recommend all users
to watch for our announcement and update their Wikibase installations as
soon as the update is available.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on this mailing list or
leave a comment at Talk:Wikibase/FAQ
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Wikibase/FAQ>.

Hi Wikibase Community,
I recently asked the following in the wikibase.cloud telegram group:
Is there an easy way of resetting an existing instance to zero - the same
effect that we got when we threw away persistent volumes in a
docker-managed instance. For sandbox use cases, it's really helpful to be
able to start from scratch again easily. I suppose the next best thing
would be to delete an instance and make a new one.
Greenreaper commented:
I'm not aware of a way to do this but as you say making a new one should be
fine, my only concern is whether deleted ones count for the current limit
of six wikibases. Also not sure if the deleted names are reserved, they may
be.
Could anyone give a definitive answer to those wb.c questions? Do deleted
wb.c instances count against quota? Could one create a new instance with
the same name as a deleted one?
And from the point of view of pure wikibase (leaving out the .cloud), is
there a nice way of resetting an instance to empty?
Thanks,
Max (Donald) Ziff
Dear Wikibase Community,
My name is Valerie
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Valerie_Wollinger_(WMDE)> and I’m the
new Community Communications Manager for Wikibase. Mohammed
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Mohammed_Sadat_(WMDE)> has been
taking care not only of Wikidata but also Wikibase. In the future I will be
taking responsibility for the Wikibase community to give Mohammed more
space supporting Wikidata. Thereby I will continue creating an open,
participatory, and collaborative environment for open source software
development.
*How did I get here..?*
At Wikimedia Deutschland, I’m finding myself in an organisation that is
highly supported through community engagement. This choice has also to do
with my own volunteering experiences. For many years, I co-created events
and conferences at the intersection of science, technology and arts.
As I was experiencing societal shifts through digital innovations myself,
festivals such as the Sonic Acts Academy
<https://portal.sonicacts.com/portal>, Impakt Festival <https://impakt.nl/>
or transmediale <https://transmediale.de/> helped me understand the flux of
change in digital culture better and thereby orient my thoughts.
In this time I also co-organized transmediale and CTM
<https://www.ctm-festival.de/>’s Vorspiel <https://vorspiel.berlin/>festival,
a program series in the field of digital art and culture, and experimental
sound and music where many partner venues across Berlin invited local and
international audiences to experience various artistic formats.
I had great fun exploring how data can be used for artistic projects and
creative storytelling. In 2020 I became part of a collaborative research
project, co-funded by the Creative Europe Program. On-The-Fly
<https://onthefly.space/> was designed to promote Live Coding, a
performative technique focused on writing algorithms in real-time. The
project’s objectives were further set up to support knowledge exchanges
between communities, engage with critical reflections as well as promote
free and open-source tools.
Simultaneously, I was striving to create knowledge resources that fostered
collective reflection and education on evolving technological
infrastructures as well as how these influence lives differently. I focused
mostly on questioning generational (dis-) advantages, economic inequalities
and, in part as a result, resulting digital (knowledge-) gaps.
I started using data literacy as a tool for digital emancipation and
educated decision-making. By designing creative learning materials I was
able to reach different target audiences with varying digital needs and
often disadvantaged backgrounds
<https://www.data-empowerment.nl/index.php/2021/04/10/dataliteracy4newcomers/>
.
That's how I came to see information and education as ultimate necessities
for active, societal participation and empowerment.
*So now I’m here.. Doing what? *
My role is to nurture all aspects that strengthen and encourage your
co-creation to Wikibase. I will support the flow of information between you
and the product development team by being present in user groups, social
media channels and other forms of online and offline events.
Also, I’m looking forward to learning more about your projects and
expanding the variety of ways to use Wikibase and interconnect open
knowledge. That’s why I’m excited to present Wikibase at upcoming events,
meeting other enthusiasts and getting to know you, the community, better.
Overall I strive to create environments that enable dialogue in a
constructive and non-violent manner.
How about you come to the next user meeting on the 27th and say Hello?
I’d be happy to meet you all very soon.
Also, if you have a wish, idea or you just want to say Hi - feel free to
send me an e-mail.

Hello,
When I try to authenticate a user through QuickStatements, MediaWiki gets
into a redirect loop calling Special:Oauth/token. Any ideas what it can be?
I am using MediaWiki 1.38.2 with the most up-to-date Wikibase version.
Thank you so much,
