Dear Community,
We’re thrilled to announce the release of WMDE.13, our security release
compatible with MediaWiki 1.39.5. The Wikibase team at Wikimedia
Deutschland sincerely apologizes for the long wait. We’re currently working
on our release tool, aiming, among other things, to be quicker in
publishing our releases.
Changes in short:
-
The folder www-data is not worldwritable anymore

More information on Wikibase version 1.39 is here
<https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/plugins/gitiles/mediawiki/extensions/Wikibas…>
Also, please note that, as always, the file LocalSettings.php is
world-readable. Viewing it from within the container reveals the database
password and secret key.
Upgrading your Wikibase
Please note that starting with Wikibase 1.39 release, the Wikibase
extension must be enabled in MediaWiki using the Extension Registration
mechanism. If you have been providing your own MediaWiki configuration file
(LocalSettings.php) for your Wikibase container, make sure to check these
upgrade instructions
<https://github.com/wmde/wikibase-release-pipeline/blob/f2555b07494c9df691cd…>
.

Hello,
We at the consulting company WikiWorks are neither Wikibase users nor
developers (other than having created some tools around SPARQL queries),
but we do think quite a lot about user interface relating to structured
data, especially within MediaWiki. Recently, we have been thinking about
how to improve the Wikibase interface, to get around its limitations - such
as the lack of on-wiki queries. We realized that there are already tools
that can help with some of these challenges, and other tools that it would
be a good idea to create. We put all our thoughts together into one
proposed suite, which we named "Enhanced Wikibase". You can read about it
here:
https://wikiworks.com/enhanced-wikibase.html
Hopefully these ideas will be helpful to anyone trying to make their
Wikibase installation easier to use. Any questions or comments are also
welcome.

Dear all,
currently, i am using wikibase for my own research purpose.
I would like to know if it is possible to reconfigure the URL structure of the items I create in Wikibase. What I'm interested in is the pagination of Wikibase items (not sure if that's the right description), and I gather that my local Wikibase items are created in the form of wiki/item:Q123 when they are created, whereas Wikidata's items are created as wiki/Q123. ex: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q150
As a user, I prefer the latter format, is there any way to configure this URL structure in LocalSettings.php?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I cannot locate the page with releases of Wikibase and their changelog. Can
you please provide me the link?
Kind regards,
Georgios

Dear community,
We hope you all had a great summer, wherever you were and however you spent
it.
We’re also back here, united and ready to take on some new challenges! But
before, we have some great news and surprises to share with you. That’s why
we will host a live session this Thursday!
There will be some news around our current beta state of Wikibase Cloud, an
invention to explore each other’s projects, and good news about a fixed
issue that some of you had troubles with in the past.
Now, where and when do we meet? Surprisingly, not much has changed here.
Our Jitsi space stays the same and the etherpad doc is also almost what it
used to be.
Time: 4:00 pm UTC (UTC+2 for Berlin)
Day: Thursday 28th September 2023
Jitsi: https://meet.jit.si/WikibaseLiveSession
Notes: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/P/WBUG_2023_09_28
Looking forward to seeing you again!
Cheers

Dear community,
I recently spoke to GreenReaper about his experience with Wikibase Cloud
and the development of WikiFur <https://furry.wikibase.cloud>. Take a look
at his journey in this article

Dear all,
I am wondering how to create Lexemes on our Wikibase, FactGrid, with QuickStatements - is there anyone who could teach me the trick?
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:QuickStatements
...does not quite tell me.
