Dear Wikibase Community, We’re thrilled to announce the release of WMDE.18, our security release compatible with MediaWiki 1.39.7. Changes in short: - WDQS now checks for allowlist.txt instead of whitelist.txt for allowed SPARQL hosts; please see T355893 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T355893> and the relevant pull request <https://github.com/wmde/wikibase-release-pipeline/pull/625> for details. - WDQS Java switched from OpenJDK to the eclipse-temurin JRE, but stays on Java 8. - WDQS base image switched from Alpine to Debian “bookworm”. - WDQS service now uses the “blazegraph” user instead of uid 666. - WDQS front-end base image changed from node 14 Alpine to node 20 “bookworm”. - MediaWiki 1.39.7 release announcement <https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org/…> . WBUG meeting - Open Call proposals and survey results - 25 April (today) @ 15:00 UTC

It's that time again: the often-monthly meeting of the Wikibase Community User Group takes place today at 15:00 UTC (so 16:00 for those of us in the UK, 17:00 in CEST, or 11:00 US EDT): https://meet.jit.si/WikibaseLiveSession Last month<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikibase_Community_User_Group/Meetings/2024…> ended with a brief comment about a call for software development proposals<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Software_Collaboration_for_Wikidata/Open_Ca…>, kicking off a flurry of behind-the-scenes work by members in collaboration with the Wikibase Stakeholder Group; cumulating in two proposals outlined on today's agenda, for form-filling entity creation and conversion of the existing OpenRefine reconciliation service into an extension: WBUG 2024 04 25<https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/WBUG_2024_04_25> Due to the time pressure, these proposals were submitted by the group's WMF contacts - Lozana and myself - prior to this meeting, though not before we were satisfied with them. But they're still only the first step, so we'd like to hear your thoughts today, too! Competition is significant<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Software_Collaboration_for_Wikidata/Call_Su…>, and there's no guarantee that either proposal will be funded, let alone both. But if they are, we'll need to have further discussions about e.g. how to handle the funds involved - and since we'd have to move reasonably quickly to get things done by the end of the year, it wouldn't hurt to think a bit about that in advance, too. Problem creating new wikibase

Hello, Recently I have been creating test wikibase projects on wikibase-cloud and deleting them when the test was over. I noticed initially on the wikibase-cloud console that I could have a maximum of 6 wikibases created at a time. However today when I tried to create another wikibase from the console I got a 'Creation Failed' message in red. Is this because a person can create a maximum of 6 wikibases total on their account? If so, this was not made clear before...

Dear Community, We are happy to announce the next major version of Wikibase Suite, WMDE.17 based on MediaWiki 1.41.0. This is a major release including the following notable changes: - MediaWiki switched to the “Vector 2022” skin by default. - MariaDB switched from 10.9 to 10.11 <https://mariadb.com/kb/en/changes-improvements-in-mariadb-1011/> for a long term support version. - PHP switched from 8.1 to 8.2 <https://www.php.net/releases/8.2/en.php>. - WDQS Java switched from OpenJDK to eclipse-temurin JRE, but stays on java 8. - WDQS base image switched from alpine to debian bookworm. - WDQS service now uses the “blazegraph” user instead of uid 666.
