Okay, I hope everything is going on well for everyone. I noticed several editors joined the new list, so all is well.
I started mentionning the new adresse to french editors.
It came to my mind that we could announce at the same time this new list, the new news template on the foundation... and remind everyone of translation request at the same time.

I noticed Aphaia added a request for translators on the meta Goings on page. And I mentioned that we needed translators to all the people who originally put their name on the m:Talk:WQ along with the link to the mailing list. Good to hear people have already signed up.. Nod. I'll try to look at all this a bit more this week end. We need to also make use of what Waerth started.
For registration, about a good dozen people already registered.
I did not check who was put to moderate the list (obviously at least I), but I would suggest that SJ and Cormac both be on this list. Is that alright with everyone ? Some else ? If no other comments, I suggest you ask Fire about this. I could add you, but since I do not know the list password, I would be unable to give it to you for access to admin interface. So... it would be quite useless :-)

From what I saw, Sj has been set up as the moderator of the list. I'm
quite happy to help out in any way I can, and would like to use this list creatively, but I'm wondering - what's involved in moderating a list? Should i read some guidelines/discussions somewhere? (I'm still a relative newbie)
Also, I've just realised that there's a Quarto release message which has been translated into cs, de, es, en, it, ja, pl here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Translation_requests/WQ/2/Release_message. It's a slightly different text to what I had, but if it looks ok to others, we could use this and the email is almost ready to go. We still need French and Portuguese - though I see there are very many more in the pipeline on the meta version of quarto (Will we go with links to versions in progress or the Foundation versions?) . On that note, we will possibly miss out some languages - should we add something at the top like "Is your language missing? Click here to get it translated"? (Should this be in English?) Ciao Cormac
Cormac, the foundation-news list is meant only for announcements, not for discussion. So all posts to it have to be manually approved. List traffic should be very light; say one for every html email you design.
I've added you as a moderator, Cormac. I'll send you password information separately.

Great. Yes, we can use those; let's get Fr and Pt done then.

We could have a second section, below that for completed languages, which links to the versions in progress on meta. They may never be completely translated.

Yes, that is a great idea. It can be in English this time; most willing and able translators will know some English.

ps - Some strings we should soon translate into 200 languages, for general use (parentheses and linked text help customize the message to its context even if you do not know the target language) * "Is your language missing? Add it here. * "New (Wikimedia) content needs to be translated (into <<LocalLang>>). Please visit the translation page to help out. * "The latest edition of the Wikimedia Quarto (the Wikimedia newsletter) has come out." * "Write for the Quarto!"
