<old mail not posted to list in error> Muchisimas gracias Ascander! Everything working now apart from Japanese (though I'm not sure if it's html encoding because I think I had made a mistake with the source code yesterday).
Sj, you don't need dreamweaver to see what I'm doing - I just copy the code from "view source" in the browser into a plain text file and preview it. Then I do the same in Dreamweaver. And for some reason, Japanese just isn't working, neither version. Anybody understand?
Will work on the draft now and post it here soon </mail>
<new mail> Almost there now. But, it never works the way you think it will. What I've done works fine from Dreamweaver, preview in browser (Safari) - fine. But when I save the code in simple text to make a file you can open without dreamweaver, it goes back to messing up all the umlauts, accents etc. I'm attaching what I've done so far anyway so you can input your suggestions. A few of the links on the sidebar are giving me problems. Comments on layout or content would be nice though. And advice on how to solve these <deleted expletives> "little challenges".. Cormac
I posted a question to wikipedia-l yesterday on my problems in getting this email to work, and without meaning to provoke debate there, that's exactly what i have done. So far, there has been much hostility to the idea, for many practical reasons. Main alternatives proposed to the html version would be a plain text, which apparently can be configured to display the languages in your browser (though Anthere wasn't so sure) and a PDF version. which apparently displays links. Obviously both alternatives require their own levels of expertise, neither of which i have. So all I can do is to focus on the html version while others possibly work on the other suggestions. I seem to remember seeing someone volunteering to design PDF but couldn't find it when I went back - can anyone remember who this is?
And if your interested, the wikipedia-l thread - steam, warts and all can be read at: http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikipedia-l/2005-April/thread.html#38992

Hi, here is an html file with too much formatting inside, but it is possible that you could copy/paste the texts from here. Please let me know if this file is useful to you or what are the problems you've found with it. Cheers, Ascánder.
