This is the subject of heated debates in mailing list land. A list that redirects replies to the list does not give you the option to reply to the poster. Many mailing list managers therefore find that it is bad taste to do so.
All mail programs give you the option of "Reply" and "Reply to all". Gmail is no exception to that rule. It even offers the option to change your mind while writing the reply message.

It might be the setup of the mailing list, I know there is an option that specifies whether replies get sent to the entire list, or just the poster (poster is default so it might be set that way). Might a list admin be able to check this out?
