Hi guys,
I'm breaking this out into a separate e-mail, just so everyone's clear
on what we're currently doing:
First, I apologize for not writing about this sooner, but Jon and Arne
and I will be meeting in Frankfurt on 3 October to take care of some
mostly administrative stuff. If anyone's available at 1500 UTC on
that day, I think a conference call would be very productive. I know
it seems silly to set up a Doodle for a single time, but it's nice to
have a standard location to see at a glance who can attend—please take
just a second to add an entry at [0].
As previously discussed, the draft proposal (to whom is apparently not
yet clear) is at [1], so please weigh in as soon as you can. Since
our working timeline has this made official in just a few days, this
is the #1 priority.
Additionally, a draft questionnaire/survey is at [2], which everyone
should take a look at in the next few days. This is public, of
course, and once it's finalized the idea is to have people copy it to
their userspace and link back on that page. They're fairly open-ended
questions, and intentionally so—it's meant to get a general feel of
what the community thinks of the topic, and allow people with very
strong opinions to make those opinions known.
And in case you're wondering, I'm still working on the central
calendar/schedule we talked about in our last meeting—expect that
later today.

Hi,
I noticed that after our last meeting the proposal has been reworked
as discussed and I think it now follows our suggestions in a proper
way. Didn't we talk about publishing it on meta, replacing the old
draft (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_roles_working_group/Proposal)
these days? It would be nice and very helpful to have a timetable with
the fixed and the variable dates of the process in the movement roles
wiki, just to keep an eye of what must be done when (and perhaps by
whom). Arne, can you start this with the already known dates (I would
do, but didn't write them down).
Best regards, Alice.
Hi all,
Thanks for answering the Doodle. It looks like the most compatible
date for the post-Board meeting call is Friday, 15 October. (Sorry,
Galileo.) We'll be meeting again at 1500 UTC—that's 0800 in San
Francisco, 2030 in Mumbai, 2300 in Hong Kong, and 1700 in most of
Europe.
We'll be using the same conference line as the previous two meetings,
and now that we've confirmed that it works for everyone I expect that
we'll be using it from now on. Once again, the local dial-in numbers
are:
Argentina 0800-444-0061
Germany 0800-111-1195
Hong Kong 800-962-902
Hungary 06800-15139
India 000-800-100-7072
Netherlands 0800-265-8075
United States 877-384-2311
United Kingdom 0800-358-3475
When prompted, enter the conference code 257017422.
I'll be re-sending this the day before the meeting, but in the
meantime those of you who keep a schedule can mark off the dates. An
agenda will be posted as soon as possible, but obviously much of it
depends on the outcome of the San Francisco meeting.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Austin
I've set up a Doodle for the planned conference call in the week
following the WMF Board meeting.
Please visit http://doodle.com/ifa2x8gppz54uwqe and weigh in on what
times would be acceptable to you. Some of us will be on planes and
such in the days after the meeting, so I expect that it'll wind up
being later in the week, but I've offered 12-16 October as options.
Thanks!
Austin
Hi all,
Here are the numbers for today's conference call at 1500 UTC:
Argentina 0800-444-0061
Germany 0800-111-1195
Hong Kong 800-962-902
Hungary 06800-15139
India 000-800-100-7072
Netherlands 0800-265-8075
United States 877-384-2311
United Kingdom 0800-358-3475
When prompted, enter the conference code 257017422
Bence, and anyone else who thinks they might have a problem dialing in
directly, I think it would be good if you could be available 10
minutes beforehand in case we need to have an operator patch you in.
I'm hoping this meeting will start a bit smoother than the last one,
and more or less on time. :)
Austin
Thanks for letting us know when you are available on doodle. The next conference call of the Movement Roles Workgroup will be this Friday, Sept 25 at 1500 UTC.
The agenda for the call is at http://movementroles.wikimedia.org/wiki/Agenda_2010_9_25. If you have problems seeing this page, please contact Austin.
The main purpose of the call is for us to review the draft proposal to be presented to the board of the Wikimedia Foundation on 9th October in SF. http://movementroles.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_proposal
Please could you review the draft proposal on the movement roles wiki before the meeting, especially if you will not be able to make the call in person?
FYI, the minutes of the prior meetings are on line.

We look forward to talking with you on Friday.
All the best

Hi all,
At the end of our last conference call, we agreed that we should meet again very soon to discuss the proposal. Please see [1] for proposed meeting times, and indicate which ones you *cannot* attend.
The proposed times are all 1500 UTC, In order to offer a reasonable opportunity for all participants to attend. If this simply doesn't work for you on any of those days, let me know and we can perhaps adjust it slightly.

Hi all,
Arne, Jon, Austin, could you give us an update on whether there is anything
brewing behind the scenes that would jump start discussions or should we go
ahead and set up some workspace on Meta or movementroles.wikimedia.org and
start brainstorming on what kind of project would lead to answers to the
movement roles questions that have been posed by the board? Is there any
outstanding job that falls on the facilitators' shoulders that we should
wait for before the work begins?
(I am not sure if we agreed on to discard the movementroles wiki, but either
way, having a page that has a village pump feel might help general and
meta-level discussion and lead to the various working drafts that itself
would have discussion pages which would help fine tune the outcome
documents. The current Meta page isn't structured as a discussion place at
the moment.)
There might be some outstanding questions about this whole idea that should
be brought forward in some forum - this mailing list or the discussion space
to be set up.
For those, who might not have the Meta page on their watchlists, Austin has
put up the minutes of the teleconference we had last week at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_roles_working_group/Meeting_10_Sept…
.
Thanks,
Bence
By popular acclaim, the first call of the Movement Roles Workgroup will be at 1500 UTC this Friday, 10th September. By a margin this was the time that most could make.
James Owen will send out a note with the details of how to connect.
As a reminder, the purpose of this call is to introduce each other and to start to plan our work together. Our immediate goal is to deliver a formal proposal on 9 Oct to the Wikimedia Foundation Board and other stakeholders. This will cover our scope and deliverables for Wikimania 2011. One on the items for us to discuss on the call is how best we can work together!
We look forward to talking to you on Friday.

Welcome to the Movement Roles Workgroup!
I'm following up on the email that Austin sent out last week. We'd like to invite you to an initial call.
