Hi,
Can anybody please remind me why do we have a whitelist for languages into which the Wikipedia apps can be translated?
Is it because Android and iOS only support certain locales at the OS level and it's impossible to customize them?
Is there any conceivable way to avoid this and open up the localization to more languages?

https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T38264 is still open but not clear why. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T70299 is the other issue.

Meh.
It would be a worthy campaign to get Google and Apple to fix this on the level of their operating systems.
