Yes, I think it makes more sense to move the arrows to the left hand side, as is typical in an accordion style list. I haven't seen a working prototype, do the arrows change orientation when the header is expanded?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Lindsey - Patrick also mentioned putting them on the left. I've seen evidence to suggest controls work better on the LHS [1] but I'm not sure if those findings do not apply to mobile development where the screen size is so much smaller - Patrick - where does getCopyright() pull content from? Is it from a special page? Likewise where does the footer come from - I'm interesting in experimenting with my local media wiki instance. All - I'll like to see a preferences sub page which does things such as disabling images. I'd expect in the new look the logo would hint better that it is a drop down menu and that menu would make sense to have a settings link which contains these sort of things. The question is what do we do with them in the mean time? Leaving them in the footer seems like the obvious choice but it removes a lot of the wow factor, so maybe putting them in the menu which has yet to be styled might be more suitable. Arthur - FWIW (and off topic) I hate that the mobile site link is right at the bottom of the desktop page. If I'm on a slow connection/device this is the place i don't want it to be as I have to scroll to it/wait for content to load. I'd much rather it was at the top of the page as I can easily flick to mobile where necessary.

Unless you're using a Galaxy Nexus :p Or a tablet, or just using MobileFrontend in your browser on your fat 50" monitor because you just like the simplicity of the layout.

I like your sentiment here. Overall I think we should prioritize usability over wow factor - otherwise the wow factor will be overshadowed by usability failure. There's nothing wrong with incrementally wow-ing our users and it will allow us to make adjustments quicker as we get feedback on incremental changes. So my vote is to just leave the links in the footer for now.

I *totally* agree. Regardless, I think the link should be super accessible and super obvious.
I just want to mention that an initial menu is not far off and could possibly be released simultaneously.
Lindsey should have some mock-ups that complement what Heather has already mocked up at:

Cool! I didn't realize we were that close. In that case, I'm all for putting the current footer links in the drop-down menu from the logo.
Well, I should clarify that it's up to Tomasz, but if we are willing to roll up several UI enhancements into one release, that could possibly encompass the initial menu.
It depends mostly on gaining agreement about the design, but the menu can potentially be treated on its own, without committing to the full navigation UI.

I've tried out the layout with buttons on the LHS - Heather, Lindsey as the experts in the team on these things I'd like to know your opinions: http://jonrobson.me.uk/wikipedia/lhs.html

I prefer this myself.

Thanks, Jon!
When I look at it at phone-scale, I prefer the text to align at the left without an icon, myself. Lindsey and I have been trying out some additional mockups and haven't come to a conclusion yet to recommend. These include–lines and row color changes, text size or color difference, and new icons and their placement. If we do end up putting icons on the left I think they will need to be much smaller.
