Our jobs page doesn't work on mobile web.
I was trying to send someone this page for the mobile web job and it wasn't good experience. This is the first thing a potential job candidate sees, we should fix this quick.
Thanks!

I'm not sure how it broke but maybe I fixed it? https://wikimediafoundation.org/w/index.php?title=Work_with_us&diff=9932...
But the interface is pretty bad anyway. We should just show the mobile view in place without requiring an extra click.
We already have a nomobile class (used on that page). Can we also get a nodesktop or mobileonly or equivalent class? or maybe it already exists?
Thanks

I guess we need to hire them to fix the mobile web job page!

We can also, for the short time being, maintain a mobile-only page with just links to our current job postings.

I asked for a mobile only class a number of times. Not a perfect fix by all means...

I'm the main opposition of a mobile only class. I've been opposing many requests for it as I believe it isn't sustainable, it basically means you maintain 2 copies of a page and also as a result you increase the page load for mobile users by including desktop only content in the HTML markup. I'm also keen in future to kill the nomobile class but this is a long way off.
The real solution to this is to push https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/Allow_styling_in_templat... through to completion. I haven't had time to work on this but I really think it is one of the most important existing RFCs and sadly out of the realm of my expertise. This would allow designers to use media queries in markup and style content differently in mobile/desktop.
Any takers?

2 copies maintained is an option I considered but I had something else in mind.
Hiding one way or another inline and maintaining only 1 copy. (Instead of the top level hiding we have now, we could hide (or show) smaller elements as needed.

Unfortunately, it's not just the jobs page; it's tons of pages on the WMF wiki :-/ Our solution for that wiki so far has been to add pages that aren't formatted for mobile to a hidden category that sends the user to the desktop site, which is marginally more useable.
The issue lies in the markup (specifically, custom-made templates and tables that don't play well with MFE) being used to generate content on those pages. I know that folks in Communications and Legal were interested in hiring a developer/designer to make this and other important WMF content (really crucial stuff like Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, basically all the chapters stuff, fundraising, etc.) mobile-friendly, but I don't know what the status of that hiring process is. I'll poke them on this :)
Emmanuel and I were just talking about that last week. She's looking into moving forward on it.
But, if someone wants to beat her to it then by all means.
