Hello mobile Wikimedians,
I'm excited to announce that we submitted a release candidate of our major
update today, and plan to release publicly on Wednesday March 9th.
If you are in the beta you should be able to install the release now from
TestFlight.
We are working with Communications on next week's public release, and I'm
getting our on wiki docs updated, so expect to hear more soon.
On behalf of the iOS team at the WMF, I also particularly want to thank our
testing volunteers and those who submitted code to the project.
Thanks,
Josh
Hello,
Hot on the heals of our major update, the WMF iOS app team is happy to
announce the release of a small bugfix update. Version 5.0.1 is currently

highlights:
- Sharing now works on all articles
- Clean up of some article layout issues
- Many additional localizations and expanded translations
- Prevent crashes when switching back and forth into the app
- Improved loading times and less bandwidth usage from images on the
Explore feed
- Better filters of Special pages on Top Read for non-English Wikis
Thanks,
Josh Minor

Subject: [Analytics] All the nodes in the Analytics Hadoop cluster will be
rebooted today
To: "A mailing list for the Analytics Team at WMF and everybody who has an
interest in Wikipedia and analytics." <analytics(a)lists.wikimedia.org>,

Hi folks!
Due to a kernel upgrade for a security fix we need to reboot each node of
the Hadoop cluster. The task will be started later on today and it will be
done in small batches to avoid causing major delays to outstanding jobs.
Please contact me if you notice any major issue (elukey or the
#wikimedia-analytics channel on freenode).
Thanks!
Regards,
Luca

Greetings,
Following up on the reading strategy.
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Reading/Strategy/Strategy_Process/Testing>
The reading team is launching an experiment that supports early engagement
in ideation phase, with a wide variety of users.
This aims at allowing a public space, where editors, staff and readers, can
submit and discuss ideas around our how to enhance user interaction with
content and with each other on Wikipedia. We plan to run this for 4 weeks,
where after two weeks we can start to narrow down ideas and discuss them in
details. Please check the link below, and feel free to submit ideas, ask
questions or leave a comment, and help us spread the word.

Best,
Moushira
When I logged into deployment-cache-mobile04 and ran puppet earlier, I
found that role::cache::mobile had been completely removed in
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/268229/ (meaning puppet on the instance
was completely broken - the other deployment-prep cache boxes also had
puppet broken due to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T129270).
I checked LDAP and didn't find any other labs instances using the role
(ideally people would check this before merging puppet patches that remove
roles...)
So I've moved all of the m.*.beta.wmflabs.org domains/subdomains over to
deployment-cache-text04. I've left the public IP pointing to the old mobile
instance for now, but in the absence of any issues, I plan to release the
IP and delete the instance soon.
Please let me know if you see any problems.
