The floating, fixed-position header bar (header bar always at the same
place at top of the screen while other things scroll) causes a number of
problems in the app, including:
* https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32917 - It's difficult to
tap into the search box
* https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31524 - section links on
file pages scroll too far down
My 'absolute' branch resolves this by removing the 'position: fixed'
floating toolbar and letting it scroll off the page:
https://github.com/brion/Wikipedia/commits/absolute
This lets us drop the event handlers that screw up the search field
focusing, because we don't need them to work around the bug where click
events went through to the background elements. It fixes the scrolling /
reference / hashlink issue by getting the header out of the way, so going
to a position in the document actually shows it at the top of the screen.
It also provides more screen space for reading, which is a big plus in
portrait orientation where a toolbar eats proportionately more screen space.
The downside is that if you've scrolled down on the page, you have to
scroll back up to get to the search field etc.
This is pretty much how the stock web browsers on iOS and Android work,
however, so I don't think it's such an awful thing to do. Any objections?
Preferences on making things sometimes auto-pop up?

Greetings All,
Hot of the presses we have RC3 ready for you! Everyone has been doing
a kick ass job squashing bugs and preparing for our app to be ready
for Global Dev on 1/13/12. With this update you'll see stability
fixes, font size preferences, google maps tile fixes, and generalized
cleanup all over the place. Were nearing the end of the RC's here. I'm
planning for RC4 to have any fixes related to locale/language testing

For those that just want to get going please first UNINSTALL the app.
In order to fix one of our bugs we had to inclue a breaking change.

Hi,
I've been asked on the Wikimedia India mailing list whether WebFonts
work on the mobile sites, and frankly, i didn't know what to say.
I'm not even sure what the mobile sites *are* now. If i browse from my
laptop to https://ta.m.wikipedia.org, am i supposed to see what a user
who browses to https://ta.wikipedia.org from his phone sees?
If that is the situation, then most Wikipedias in Indic languages are
probably not properly configured to support the mobile site. I found
actual content only on Tamil (ta), Marathi (mr) and, somewhat
surprisingly, Sanskrit (sa). All the other Wikipedias only show a
search box and some boilerplate text, although most of it is
translated.
Is it worth the effort to tell the local admins there to make the
necessary configuration or is the mobile site going to change soon?
Thank you,

I'm not sure who has seen this yet but I want folks to take a look at
some of the awesome work Abhishek Hingnikar has done to enable
Wikipedia Zero on mobile operators services. He still wants to work on
a cross browser version. I still have to check with Abhishek if he's
on this mailing list so people can give you feedback directly as well.
Thanks, Abhishek!
