Dear Proofreaders,
CIS-A2K is in a process to community survey and being conducted as part of
a pilot study to collect baseline data on infrastructural needs of
Wikisource platforms in India. The objective of the study is to identify
current challenges and knowledge gaps in technological capacity, resources
and training on Wikisource platforms in selected languages. Through an
analysis of this data, the study aim will provide learnings and
recommendations on potential strategies to address these gaps, including
through collaborative intervention and training. You may read more about
the study here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Research/Study_on_Infrastructural_N…
To design the programs based on the needs of the community and volunteers,
we invite your valuable suggestions and thoughts. We would like to improve
our working continuously taking into consideration the responses/feedback
about the events conducted previously. We request you to go through the
various sections in the form and respond.

Hello Indic Wikisource proofreaders,
We are happy to announce that the Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon March 2022
[1] will be starting from tomorrow 01 March 2022 and will continue up to
16th March 2022.
We are also expecting higher participation than in previous contest.
We heartily welcome new Wikimedians from various parts of the country to
work on restoring our literary heritage to the digital era. Just like the
previous contest held in August 2020, we again promise to wrap up
everything within the expected timeline after the competition ends. We are
going to keep our promise again. :-)
Welcome you all to the contest.

Hello fellow Wikisource enthusiasts!
I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. Sam Wilson and I are
excited to share that we will be hosting regular Wikisource Triage meetings
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Triage_meetings>, starting from
21st March 2022.
These meetings aim to foster the growth of a technical community of
Wikisource developers and contributors. The meetings will be primarily
focused on identifying, prioritizing and estimating tasks on the
All-and-every-Wikisource
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/All-and-every-Wikisource> and
ProofreadPage <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/ProofreadPage>
workboards (among others) on Phabricator and eventually reduce the backlog
of technical tasks and bugs related to Wikisource by making incremental
improvements to Wikisource infrastructure and coordinating these changes
with the Wikisource communities.
While these meetings are technology focused, non-technical Wikisource
contributors are also invited to join and share any technical challenges
that they are facing and we will help them to create phabricator tickets.
Newbie developers are also more than welcome!
The first meeting has been scheduled for 21st March 2022 at 10:30 AM UTC /
4:00 PM IST (Check your local time
<https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1647858641>). If you are interested in
joining the meeting, kindly leave a message on sgill(a)wikimedia.org and we
will add you to the calendar invite.
Meanwhile, feel free to check out the page on Meta-wiki
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Triage_meetings> and suggest
topics for the agenda.
Regards
Sam and Satdeep

Dear Wikimedians,
Greetings for the New Year 2022!
We are excited to announce that submission for session proposals has been opened for Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022, the upcoming online wiki-event which is to be conducted from 18 – 20 February 2022 during the occasion of International Mother Language Day. The submission will remain open until 23 January 2022.
You can submit your session proposals here -
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Wikimeet_India_2022/Submissions
A program team has been formed recently from highly experienced Wikimedia volunteers within and outside India. It is currently under the process of expansion to include more diversity in the team. The team will evaluate the submissions, accept, modify or reject them, design and finalise the program schedule by the end of January 2022. Details about the team will come soon.
Guidelines for submissions:
* The sessions will be on any Wikimedia related topics.
* Submissions are not restricted to India. Wikimedians from outside India are also welcome to submit proposals.
* The decision to accept or reject a submission will depend on the Program Team. Their decision will be final.
* The event will have different formats of sessions, like presentations, workshops, panel discussions and 5-minutes lightning talks.
* All sessions will be conducted online.
* The organisers will provide the support to help the presenter understand the use of online platforms like Zoom etc prior to the event..
* The organisers will also communicate with the presenter prior to the event to help understand the entire process, or for general preparation.
* A session can be around 20 minutes long or more. A lightning talk should be no longer than 5 minutes.
* There can be more than one presenter in one session. Feel free to make a group for your session.
* The presenters for long duration sessions must ensure that they will be available for the preparation and during their sessions.
* The presenters for lightning talks however can pre-record their sessions earlier, if they want and send it to the organizers to play the recording during their allotted time.
* A session will be conducted in English or any Indian language.
* Similar topics may be grouped together, or format may be changed by the program team. The program team will contact the session presenters if those decisions are taken.
We are sure that you will share some of your most inspiring stories and conduct some really exciting sessions during the event.
Our fist newsletter also is published here -

Best wishes for your submissions!

Jayanta

Dear all,
CIS-A2K has initiated a short-term pilot research project called *Study on
Infrastructural Needs of Indian Language Wikisource Projects*, to collect
baseline data on the challenges and needs of Wikisource projects in India.
We would like to invite you to share your valuable feedback on the research
design. For more details on this, including the objective and process, you
may see:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Research/Study_on_Infrastructural_N…
We request you to kindly give your feedback on the following points which
would be very useful to refine the study before we commence our research
work:
1. Are the objectives of the research clear?
2. What do you think of the process outlined for this research?
3. Kindly give us your general opinion/suggestions/comments about this
study.
For any queries, kindly reply to this thread, or write to
sneha(a)cis-india.org.
