I'll be visiting Chicago on 20-25 May, and have some free time then. Are there any GLAM events in that period, anyone at a GLAM I should meet, or is there anyone who'd like to meet for coffee/ beer?
I'd be happy to chat about my Wikipedia Residences in the UK; QRpedia, or other activities.
I'd also like to meet a local birder, who can help me identify the birds I see there!
Andy,
That's exciting! Emily is your main contact in Chicago. I'm three hours south in Indianapolis, if you're looking for a road trip to the most extraordinary Children's Museum in the world! (We do special things for our visiting Wikipedians - they're like celebrities here : ).
Emily can let you know if there are any edit-a-thons or events going on then. But it's my understanding that there's not a particularly strong GLAM presence there.

Dear Andy (and Lori),
I'd love to meet up - Chris Schilling is also a great contributor and has been involved in our GLAM efforts so far, so if you want to meet him that would also be fun I'm sure.
We don't have any events planned for then as far as I know, things are very quiet as we're both swamped. You should definitely try to head down to Indy as the Children's Museum is *amazing*.
All the best, Emily

Hi Emily,
Thanks for both of your e-mails. Apologies for the delayed response; I've been waiting until I firmed up my travel plans. I should be arriving on Tuesday evening. My event is on Weds & Thurs, so I'll be busy daytime and with the other attendees Weds evening (you could join us if you have an interest in ORCID). After that, I have Friday, Saturday and until late lunch Sunday to do sightseeing and socialise. How are you fixed?
The event I'm at is : http://orcid.org/content/orcid-outreach-meeting-and-codefest-may-2014 (I'm presenting a poster on ORCID in Wikipedia and Wikidata; registration closes on 14th May!) and I'm staying at Holiday Inn, Chicago Mart Plaza River North.
I'm told I should eat pizza one evening; perhaps you might join me, and feel free to invite Chris and other Wikipedians? I'm open to other suggestions.
I hope to spend some of my time birding, at the lakeside or in a park. Do you know a local birder who might help me with bird identification, for an hour or so?
BTW, as a student and Wikipedia editor, you should definitely register for an ORCID identifier.
Cheers,
Whether or not we can pitch a GLAM partnership to it, you should definitely visit the Art Institute! It is one of the finer art museums in the world, and I enjoyed it immensely.

It’s funny because there was what looked like a very successful Art + Feminism editathon at the Art Institute Library – I love the video they did.

Emily, looks like you had a hand in this?

Sadly I didn't have a hand in it but one of the girls I recruited to Wikipedia did go!
