Hello All,
I am somewhat new to administering wikis and am trying to get a new MediaWiki instance up using the Foreground skin [0]. I am familiar with CSS and wikis, not so much PhP. I have been able to customize the header, add a logo and add a horizontal list of links. I like Foreground as it leaves the center screen area open for content.
Would someone be able to point me to directions for how to customize the sidebar (navigation) content? Right now the Navigation menu is black while the rest of the top bar I've customized to green. I believe that I should be able to do this using CSS, but I have not yet been successful.
Also, are there examples for how to set up tabs? I have found examples for Grid, but not tabs.
Thank you! Heidi
Heiya Heidi,
yeah, the top navigation is hard to pick. It took a while but I actually managed to adapt this. Have a look at the "foreground.css" page on <mediawikiwidgets.org> which should include all required CSS to do it. Just change the colour to your green.
Hmm, the help page on tabs is here: [1] Probably not just the resulting tabs should be shown but also the code to generate them. Just hit edit to see the "wiki" code.
Cheers Karsten

Thank you Karsten!
Very helpful. And my bad for missing the link to the Tab documentation.
I appreciate the help! Heidi

Heiya Heidi,
no problem at all. I believe that this will work out for you. There is also no need to reinvent the wheel. I myself got help from this list just a couple of days ago. So it's my go to do so too!
I have slightly changed the documentation for tags to also show the code used to generate the tabs. So one can just copy and past from the pre area.
Cheers and thanks
Karsten

Hieya Heidi,
indeed, looks like big progress. I'd however use a different colour or brightness to the existing colour for the hovering over the drop down menue. Also you logo seems to be a little to big or the horizontal navigation bar to narrow. That's probably nitpicking. ;)
Cheers and have a great day
Karsten

Yes, thanks for the feedback. I'm a technical person, not a designer and this is very much a work in progress. I'm thinking of using a different color than the light green on the top bar (cream or gray?). Also still have to try out the tabs.
Thanks for the pointers! Heidi
