*Wednesday 21 April. Dialogical conference: "La Viquipèdia: Què és, com funciona i el que l'envolta" (Wikipedia: what is it? how does it work? what does it involve?) at the Industrial Engineers School of Barcelona, Passeig de Gràcia, 50. Organized by: Fundació Torrens Ibern. User:Martorell (also supported by Vriullop, KRLS, Ssola & Pallares).
Relation with entities
*Wednesday 14 April. Meeting with the Sociedad de Ingenieria de Fabricación (Manufacturing Engineering Society). It has been proposed to them the sponsorship of a prize concerning the development of contents involving the manufacturing technologies on Wikipedia. The Society comprehends most of the university professors in Spain who take part in the manufacturing technologies. They would fundraise the prizes and would take part of the jury. We have invited Wikimedia Argentina and other members behind the project of Wikimedia Spain to participate in the organization. Here are the requirements, still waiting for an agreement with the SIF. Gomà.
*Sunday 18 April. Meeting in Berlin with Catalan teachers and with the Executive Committee of Casal Català of Berlín. You can see all the details in the summary of the meeting. Josepnogue & Gomà.
*Sunday 25 April. Meeting with Amèrica Grau. From the World Bank. They offer themselves to support us in updating automatically the statistical data of the bank in all wikis. We have contacted the WMF in order to coordinate it globally in all projects. We will keep informing you. Vriullop

*Agreement with TV3 for the program Espai Internet (Internet Space). During this month, the following articles have been created: Guernica (painting) (4/4/2010 program), Droga (4/18/2010 program; in this program they have also put the article in Spanish), and Estadística (4/25/2010 program).
Other issues
*We have opened the weblink to sell the book on Wikipedia. KRLS. We have arrived on time and for Sant Jordi's Day everything was ready. 10% of the samples have already been sold during that day and thanks to some contacts. Next month and the following one, some presentations of the book will be presented in the media and in every Catalan-speaking community. We will keep you informed.
*We have finished with the identification of all the articles from vp:Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana (Great Catalan Encyclopaedia) that were still missing on the Catalan wikipedia. They are more than 100.000. User:Pasqual

WMFR monthly report - march 2010
================================
The WMFR monthly status update is back -- this is the activity report
for the last month, March 2010.
- *WMFR is growing*: the last fundraising campaign attracted 60 new
members and WMFR now enjoys 200 active members. Welcome to them!
- *WMFR hired its first employee*: Bastien Guerry will assist WMFR in
various projects, his main commitment for 2010 being a conference
turned toward the academic/GLAM world.
- *WMFR elected the new board* during its annual general assembly: a
warm welcome to the new board members Nicolas Vigneron (secretary),
Pierre Beaudouin (treasurer), Thierry Coudray (assistant treasurer)
and a sincere thank you to Delphine and Alexandre for their past
involvement as board members.
General Assembly 2010 (march, 13th-14th 2010)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The board has been renewed
===========================
Here is the new board:
- Adrienne Alix, president
- Pierre Beaudouin, treasurer (newly elected)
- Nicolas Vigneron, secretary (newly elected)
- Julien Fayolle, vice-president
- Thierry Coudray, assistant treasurer (newly elected)
- Rémi Bachelet (reelected)
- Florence Devouard
- Christophe Henner (reelected)
- Rémi Mathis (reelected)
We held three votes: 1) The members approved the moral and financial
annual reports. 2) Members agreed on supporting Montreal's application
for hosting Wikimania 2011. 3) Members voted on letting WMFR try to get
the "recognition of public utility" label.
Brainstorming thematic sessions (march, 13th)
==============================================
We then held three collective brainstorming sessions:
Ludovic Péron (from both WMFR and WMCH) facilitated a workshop on "how
to get accreditations as a photograph for Wikimédia France?". The
members raised the question as to whether chapters should try to
coordinate and share more information about this, but apparently most
problems are specific to each event, the trick being to bring a BIG
camera.
Bastien Guerry presented a general review (WOW report) of his first
month experience with WMFR and what he found surprising. Long story
short: there are tons of energy and potential, let's make it real by
improving inside and outside communication, and by publicly assuming
values and partnerships.
Jean-Fred presented the regional activity of the western "cabale" (aka
la Non-Cabale de l'Ouest). This is a very active group of wikipedians
holding regular meetings in Rennes, adding many pictures of Brittany
(and more) to Wikimedia Commons, maintaining local contacts within the
citiy and with public authorities, etc.
Thematic workshops (march, 14th)
=================================
Sunday 14th was dedicated to three workshops: 1) ongoing partnerships
with GLAMs, 2) internal communication processes, 3) academic/GLAM
conference (colloque).
The city of Toulouse (south west of France contacted WMFR to build a
partnership about their prehistorical collections so that wikimedians
might be allowed to take pictures of it and work with labs on proper
scientific metadata. This partnership might span over other picture
collections from the city of Toulouse in the next months.
Internal communication of WMFR can be improved: the monthly newsletter
is back; some members are working on a "welcome kit" to help newcomers
better understand where they can help and propose new projects. The
purpose of the various mailing lists will be clarified so that people
can join small - but effective - active working groups.
The colloque is planned to take place at the end of 2010. There is an
overall agreement on the fact that WMFR should focus on GLAMs for this
colloque. The next steps are these: find a location, stabilize a
date/time, make a "save your date" announcement, build the program,
call for contributions.
WMFR's participation to local events and conferences
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- March, 12th: Julien Fayolle participated to a debate about Web 2.0.
- March, 21st: Adrienne Alix presented WMFR and fr.wp to PhD students
from the Wikipeplum project (a project of scientific communication),
also presenting them with the /Plume !/ project (some PhD students
validating credits by contributing to fr.wp.)
- March, 22nd: Emilie, Carl and Bastien represented WMFR to the Forum of
Cognitive Sciences. They engaged in fruitful discussions with
students and researchers about fr.wp and Wikiversity.
- March, 29th: Adrienne Alix presented fr.wp participated to a panel
about « Internet for everyone, by everyone? » organized by the local
LUG in Toulouse.
- Three members (Jastrow, Jeffdelonge and Mikani) covered the local
elections and took pictures of various events.
(Of course, this list is not exhaustive.)
News from some Wikimedia projects

On march 16th, the french wikiversity reached 1000 courses: see [this
blog entry] (fr) for WMFR's announcement.
In February, WMF deleted some french texts from the french Wikisource,
after the (french) publisher Éditions Gallimard sent them a take-down
notice. WMFR [blogged about this] to clarify the issue.

Courses and conferences
Viquibalear has already finished the stage of presenting articles. More than 800 articles have been presented. Prize-giving time will be on April 30, 2010, with the presence of the Hble. Mr. Bartomeu Llinàs Ferrà, the councilor of Education and Culture for the Balearic Government. We would like to thank Xavigivax's contribution, who designed the degrees that will be delivered in schools. Pau Cabot.
On February 10, a workshop on Wikimedia Commons took place at the headquarters of Òmnium Cultural de l'Alguer, in Alghero. Gus. dan
February 22, a dissertation at the 4th Meeting of Associated Enterprises at the UOC (Catalonia Open University). We are indebted to Kul Wadhwa who, in spite of not being a member of the association, we would be delighted if he eventually becomes one next time he visits Catalonia.
Relation with entities
On Wednesday 3 February, we had a meeting with the General Director of the Information Society of Catalonia's Government. We talked about different ways of contributing such as, for example, having someone who knows wikipedia and the association to be a regional contact and help other users to take an active role on wikipedia, through the TIC network. We will keep informing you of whatever is going on with this issue during the next months. KRLS
On Monday 8 February, we were invited to attend The Torrents Ibern Foundation Board. Among the activities of the Foundation: they fund the physics and chemistry dictionaries carried out by the termcat with an income of 24.000€/year. They purchase the copyright of scientific books, they translate them into Catalan and then publish them with free access to the material. They soon will publish the first one titled Data and Computer Communications, by Stallings. The idea is to do one per year, the permitted amount given the expenses of 25.000€/year. They also organize dialogues on scientific and technological topics. By now, we have already agreed with them that: 1) the next dialogue to take place will be about wikipedia, 2) they have set materials about professor Torrents Ibern under a free license. We will study the situation of physics and chemistry dictionaries to see if they can be published with a free compatible license with wikipedia. Gomà.
On February 22, we talked with the TV3 television program Espai Internet. As a result, we have opened the Wikiproject:Espai Internet (the Catalan for "Internet Space"). The idea is that before starting with a topic they will tell us, and if we can create or improve an article on the Catalan wikipedia, they will take it to the program.
Release of contents
On Wednesday 24 February, we had a meeting at the Columbian Studies Center (Centre d'Estudis Colombins). They have a project that consists of including in their web page all the historical documentation about Columbus, to digitalize it, to transcribe it, to comment on it, and to translate it into Catalan and English. We are planning to sign an agreement with them in order to have all that material available under a compatible license with Wikimedia. This will enable us to copy whatever we want from it according to our aims and purposes. We will keep you informed about this. KRLS & Mafoso.
Other issues
News at the TV3 telenotícies. Kul & Gomà. [1]
Viquilletra [Wikiletter] Project. In collaboration with the UOC and the Education Department to work on Catalan literature. The teachers from the ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) and high school will work on Catalan literature by topics. Once they have worked on that, they will go to a proofs wiki, following Viquibalear's model, and they will put that information on an article, following our conventions of style. They will not be moved to the Catalan wikipedia until they follow the rules. From those articles, there will be links to authors and their works, which also will have to be completed. By now we are experimenting this. We will make the proof in ten educational centers. If it works, the project will begin in September.
We have opened the weblink on identi.ca and on twitter. Martorell & Toniher.
Catalan Wikipedia Book (Llibre Viquipèdia). We are finishing with it in order to be printed in paper and to have it as a material for courses and meetings on wikipedia. The following users have contributed: Vriullop, Mafoso, Ferbr1, KRLS, Miquel puig, and Gomà. It goes without saying, that were are thankful to Florence Devouard and Gullaume Paumier for being the authors of the original version in French.

New Years Reception
The new years reception at January 23 was organized together with the
Tropenmuseum and Creative Commons NL. The reception, held in the
Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, was preceded by a guided tour through the
exhibition "Kunst van overleven" (Art of survival) about the Maroon culture
and history in Suriname. The reception was well visited with 40-50 visitors:
not only Wikimedians, but also people from cultural institutions and other
enthousiasts.
CoSyne
The University of Amsterdam organized a cooperation between 7 organizations
that will develop software under a free license which will make it easier to
maintain a multilingual wiki. The idea is that a change in one language will
lead to changes in the same page in the other languages. The project under
the name CoSyne with participants such as the Dutch institute "Beeld en
Geluid" (Sound and Vision), Deutsche Welle and Wikimedia Nederland is
exploring the usefulness. The European Commission has approved the funding
request.
National Archive / Spaarnestad
The "Nationaal Archief" (National Archive) is the larges public archive in
the Netherlands and has a large collection around several themes. The
National Archive has sought contact with Wikimedia Nederland and we will
probably be able to announce a project where the National Archive and
Spaarnestad Photo release a part of a photo collection under a free license
for use on Wikimedia Commons. More to follow!
Library Association
Wikimedia Nederland is cooperating with the Vereniging Openbare Bibliotheken
(Association of Public Libraries) on a joint project around media literacy
and cultural heritage. The expectation is that a pilot can be launched in
2010 in the province of Zeeland.
Board Interest Meeting
In February, Wikimedia Nederland will organize a special meeting for people
who are interested in candidating for the board during the elections in
March. This meeting will give an opportunity to get to know the other
candidates, to ask questions to the current board about how the board works.
Coming Up:
- February 20: Board Interest Meeting
- Until March 7: Exposition of Wiki Loves Art/NL photos in the Maritime
Museum
- March 13: Annual General Assemblee, election of new board
Wikimedia News no. 28 - January 14, 2010
Editorial
This year Italy joined for the first time the annual fundraising campaign
launched and organized by Wikimedia Foundation. We made this choice because
now we are listed in the register of Associations for Social Promotion, and
so the donations we receive are tax deductible; this could attract and
encourage further the potential donors. Wikimedia Italy joined the campaign
a few weeks later it started because we wanted to be sure to become an APS.
The worldwide result of this year's fundraising has been quite good: the
Foundation reached its target of 7.5 million dollars well ahead of schedule.
As for WMI, despite the late start and some unexpected obstacle on the way
(PayPal blocked our account on Christmas Eve because of the high traffic),
the fundraising can overall be judged satisfactory; the final result, with
more than 3,300 individual donations, exceeded the forecasts that the
hopeful Board members made at its start.
Donation amounted to more than 58,000 euro. After taking the expenses away,
approximately 26,000 euro will be sent to Wikimedia Foundation, while
approximately 32,000 euro remain available to the Association for promotion
and development of our projects.
We take this opportunity to thank especially all the members who wanted and
were able to become donors.
It is important to note that the fundraising also created the opportunity
for many people to approach to our Association as well as to the projects of
the Foundation; between mid-December and early January we enrolled 31 new
members. A hearty welcome among us to all of these people!

News from Wiki@Home <http://www.wikimedia.it/index.php/Wiki@Home>
The second season of W@H ends with the shift between IlCorda (aka
DracoRoboter) and CristianCantoro as project manager. The second season
ended with a fall of the number of interviews compared to the previous year;
the project should therefore be relaunched in the new season (2009/2010).
Note the new format of the project Wiki@Home-Video, with its first reports;
the new formula (though still to be defined in detail) must certainly be
supported for the upcoming interviews.
We'll try and broaden participation in the project even among users of
Wikipedia or Wikinotizie, opening it also to contributions external to the
association. We really hope that this will also bring new members to WMI
itself; premium Wiki@Home (not awarded in 2008/2009) should be exploited in
this regard. Of course, we also seek volunteers within the association,
since there is much to be done (maintenance of the pages, proofreading,
etc.) To make a new proposal, what about a business card for the
wiki-reporters (a related proposal is discussed in depth in Proposal:Wikinews
Accredited Reporter Identity
Cards<http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/strategy:Proposal:Wikinews_Accredited_Report…>)?

designed to facilitate the growth of the project community.
- *Wiktionary*:
- The process of choosing the logo for Wiktionary is finally winding
up: after the first vote in December, a ballot between the two most voted
logos will be going throughout January. Participants from any
WMF project in
any language may vote. The purpose of the selection, initiated
by Cary Bass,
WMF Volunteer Coordinator, is to determine the final overall logo for
Wiktionary (Wiktionary) in all languages, because different editions
(especially the English one) have resisted the adoption of the
logo chosen
by vote in 2006, and have maintained that the provisional one created
earlier. It seems that the Italian community prefers to keep the
logo chosen
in 2006.
- After Wikiquote did in November, also Wiktionary has reached 10,000
registered users. Wikiquote remains the italian project with
more registered
users, after Wikipedia.
- Community has started to consider seriously and to work on some
projects to improve the content of Wiktionary, and in particular the
inclusion of tens of thousands of

Snail mail New Year cards were sent to all members and the volunteers who
helped the chapter in the activities in the past year. The members were also
invited in a letter for the New Year drinks, and the volunteers were thanked
for their help with a hand written note. Also several organizations with
whom the chapter worked together in the past year received a card. Several
recipients expressed that they were very pleased by this gesture.
Wiki Loves Art exposition
In the maritime museum in Rotterdam, an exhibition has been placed of Wiki
