There was a thread about this at AN/I a little while ago - I believe Mr.
Godwin contacted them and they said they had no involvement.
Are you sure of this? I know the register says it, but shouldn't we double
check?

Just to update everyone, the Board decided on Monday to hold the AGM
in Birmingham, or Manchester if it was not possible to find a free or
low cost venue in Birmingham.
The rationale was that Birmingham is a central location with good
transport links to the rest of the country, London hosted the first
WMUKv1 meeting and Oxford is being considered for the 2010 AGM in the
run up to Wikimania 2010.
We are currently investigating the possibility of holding the AGM at
the University of Birmingham in Edgbaston. The university is close to
"University" train station, which, looking at trainline.com, is
directly served from Cardiff and is 7 minutes from Birmingham New
Street which is served by trains from London, Leicester, Manchester
and Sheffield.
Will keep you all updated!

Andrew

Subject: Help needed - job spec for Chapter Board members
Hi all,
We're currently organising the first AGM for Wikimedia UK and we're looking at ways of encouraging people to stand as candidates for the chapter Board.
One bit of feedback that I've had is that people would be more likely to stand if they had a better idea of what the role required.
Could I ask what the experience of other chapters is on this: what kind of work do you normally expect from your Board members? How often do you have meetings, in person and remotely, how long do they last and how much work would an ordinary Board member or an officer (e.g. Secretary, Chair, Treasurer) typically do?
Thanks for your feedback on this.
Regards,
Andrew Turvey
Secretary

Dear all,
I am very happy to be able to confirm to you that the Wikimedia
Foundation's Board has passed its resolution of approval for Wikimedia
UK v2 (Wiki UK Limited), which at the same time revokes the
recognition of Wikimedia UK v1 (WER).
Copies of the resolution will be posted on wikimediafoundation.org in
the next days, in case you need something like a signed version of it
(for the bank?), you would need to get in touch with Patti Melton
(pmelton at wikimedia dot org) at the Foundation office.
My sincere congratulations and all the best -- if I can be of any
help, both now as ChapCom member and from October onwards as UK
resident, I'll be glad to.
I am very impressed by the amount of work that the board and all other
volunteers have already done by now and I'm sure that, with this final
roadblock removed, there is nothing to stop the chapter now!
Yours,
Michael

Hi all,
I'm starting to get some more details together about the events at the
Victoria & Albert Museum that we're running as part of the Wikipedia
Loves Art project.
The V&A are organising their launch event on Sunday 1st February -
time to be confirmed. If you can come down that day or otherwise
contribute either in person or on wiki during February please sign you
name up here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WLA@V%26A#Participants
Please spread the word to anyone else you know who may be interested -
the following groups have already been notified:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WLA@V%26A#Publicity and please
add in any other groups you contact.
Lastly, we're planning a short discussion on irc:wikimedia-uk to
organise the event and sort out how the V&A element is going to fit in
with the international project.
If you can think of anything else please post on the project talkpage!
Regards,
Andrew

They do, however, need to be set up by the donor, not us, which makes
it less likely people will do so. They will have to do for now,
though.
The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, 13 January at
20:30 GMT/UTC, in the irc:wikimedia-uk-board IRC channel. All are
welcome to join and contributute in the irc:wikimedia-uk IRC channel.
We will have heard the results of the WMF Board meeting so we will
know whether we have been approved or not; if yes, we can finalise our
bank account opening and start signing up as many people as we can!
The full agenda has been published here:

and is copied below. If there is anything else you would like the
Board to discuss, or if you want to contribute to any item, please let
us know.
