Dear Wikimedia UK mailing list,
We have been given some free off peak weekday tickets to the tank museum in
Dorset.
I have already Emailed those of our Wiki Loves Monuments participants who
opted in to further events, so apologies if this is a repeat, but if anyone
here fancies taking photographs of tanks, send me your snail mail address
and I will send you a ticket

Wikimedia UK has currently not endorsed any candidate for the two
Chapter affiliate seats on the WMF Board of Trustees. Neither has any
UK candidate stepped forward.
Does anyone have views to share on this list for which candidate they
feel would best represent the interests of our volunteers? There is
around a week left and Michael Maggs (the UK Chairman) has stated that
the chapter might endorse a candidate if there were a "groundswell of
opinion".
The candidates are:
* Frieda Brioschi
* Mallory Knodel
* Patricio Lorente
* Anders Wennersten
* Alice Wiegand
You can find links to their nomination statements at:

To put questions to the candidates goto:

A related chapter discussion thread is at
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Engine_room#Affiliate-selected_seats_on_the_b…>
if you prefer to write there.
I am a bit disappointed there have not been more candidates (dropping
from 8 in 2012 to 5 this year). The "chapters movement" (and the GLAM
programme) would be best served by strong competition for these
positions.

Hi Katie,
I asked this a while ago and your answer was essentially "we're working on it", but I don't think I'm the only one wondering, so I'll ask on this list.
What do UK (in particular non-London) residents who want financial support to attend do? Is there going to be a separate process or do we need to apply for a scholarship through the WMF (which would be a bit silly imho)?
I'm sure it would be useful to know before the scholarships deadline.
Thanks,

On Charles and Andrew's points, Manchester Libraries very kindly allow
anyone in the UK to register with them. See
http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200062/libraries/78/join_the_library
. The process is a tad odd - if you are asked if you are accessing via
Cardiff libraries, say yes - I think they handled the national deal with
OUP. That's what I have to do anyway. I don't know if you get the
American biography book in the UK package though.

Dear All,
There are two exciting volunteer opportunities within expert outreach and
Wikipedia that I wanted to flag up.
* Science Communications and Public Engagement workshop on *19 June*,
London, run by Society for Applied Microbiology, but open to a wider
audience from other science organisations. See a draft agenda below. This
is a really good opportunity to talk about using Wikipedia in Science
communication to the right audience. Some details remain to be pinned down,
so whoever is keen to deliver this can adapt the programme.
* A talk about Wikipedia and how a learned society can engage with it
at Physiology
2014 <http://www.physiology2014.org/>, London, which takes place over* 30
June - 2 July.* Probably a brief presentation (or a workshop, depending on
your preference) to function as a part of the conference, to lead to a full
training workshop in October in the office of the Physiology Society. The
details are up for discussion and so we would arrange a meeting with the
conference organiser to pin it all down.
Do get in touch if you are interested in getting involved!
Many thanks,
Daria

*Session B - Wikipedia: Bringing accurate, evidence based information to

information and teaching participants how to edit entries and the dos and
don'ts of doing so.
