Don't get me wrong, I would love to participate. I was (un)official mentor
several times. I am sure that there is long term benefits, at least to open
source in general. I am not sure if there are middle/short term benefits,
at least in my area. After several mentorships, only one former student is
still around, contributing rarely (he has a job now).
