[Mediawiki-l] Is there an easy way to search the archives?

I think it is a common problem for newcomers. Why doesn't the list 
manager software send a short text to people as the welcome message 
telling a couple ways of doing search in the archives?

It'd be helpful in decreasing the traffic on the list a bit.
