Hi there,
I am the Data Analyst referred to in:
"WMDE will onboard their data analyst soon" : )
Please, just a quick check to see whether I get the things right -
feedback appreciated:
- I need to open an Wikitech account (DONE);
- I need to register for ToolLabs (DONE; Waiting for Admin confirmation,
presumptively on my Talk Page to appear);
- I register my public RSA key with the Labs, and then what: someone
assigns an instance to me, and then I start installing R and whatever I
need there?
The machines in labs arn't too bad, i think you can get 8G of ram, but
you'll want to request access to our analytics cluster for the servers we
run ad-hoc and repeated analysis from.It will take a few days for the
ops-request to go through to get you analytics access. It looks like there
is a group 'analytics-wmde' that you will request access to.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate the creation of the
Onboarding Data Analysis
Document, but I am trying to get to a descent server in the Wikimedia
environment as soon as I can :)
With best regards,
Goran S. Milovanovic,
Data Analyst, WMDE

I'll try to take a look at the GDoc and offer suggestions there.

Hello Analytics,
WMDE will onboard their data analyst soon. Adam and me (with help of
various others) compiled an onboarding document to collect all™ the needed
information to get started.

It maybe useful for us to copy some over to Wiki to pages below
https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Analytics
We could create a "getting started" page from (or is there already one
which I oversaw?)
