About HelpDesk-l

This mailing list is for asking questions relating to any of the Wikimedia projects. The main language of this list is currently English. If you prefer to ask questions on the wiki, please see Wikipedia:Help desk. If you have a question about something other then our projects, you will get a better response by asking on the reference desk.

Note that if you do not subscribe to the list, then there may be a substantial delay before your question can be answered. Due to the excessive amount of spam we recieve, all emails must be manually approved.

Asking questions: Please check the FAQ and the archives before asking a question. You can ask a question on this list by sending an email to "helpdesk-l@wikimedia.org. You do not need to subscribe to the list to post there, but you might find it useful to subscribe to the list and see replies to other frequently asked questions.

Answering questions: Please subscribe to the list using the form below so you can help to answer questions from newcomers. Remember that not everyone asking questions will be subscribed to the list, so you should "cc" your replies to the questioner.

Subscribing to HelpDesk-l

Subscribe to HelpDesk-l by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator.

    You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext.

    If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options.
