Hi there Wikimetrics fans,
I wanted to get some input on a proposal to add a "pages edited" metric to
Wikimetrics (see this story
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Analytics/Wikimetrics/Stories#User_reports_p…>
).
This was proposed because "Articles Improved
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Learning_patterns/Number_of_articles…>"
is one of the new Grantmaking Global Metrics
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Learning_%26_Evaluation/Global_metri…>,
and there's currently no way to get the # of pages that were edited by the
members of a cohort through Wikimetrics.
As we've scoped it, this metric would be listed along with the other
available metrics on https://metrics.wmflabs.org/metrics/. Any Wikimetrics
user would be able to run this metric for reports the same way they would
run any other--they can filter by pages edited in a particular namespace,
date range, retrieve individual and aggregate results, etc. It would also
be possible to get the # of pages edited across different projects for
CentralAuth cohorts.
What do y'all think: does this sound reasonable and useful?
Best,
Jonathan

Hello,
Yes, I apologize you are facing difficulty with running reports. There have been some recent changes to the labs server that have been causing instability for the Wikimetrics tool. Although our analytics team has been working on it, I am forwarding this note to the wikimetrics list to let the team know your having issue as well and to loop you in for updates.
If you are not already subscribed, I suggest subscribing to the list so you will get messages in the future about issues that sometimes come up and can report directly to the support team able to help.
You can subscribe at:

Thank you for your patience.
Best regards,
Jaime

Hello everyone, a new kid on the block reporting.
I was encouraged to test wikimetrics at the recent Wikimedia Conference in
Berlin. I did register, I tried my best. and now every time I try to do
anything with Wikimetrics, I receive the awful "error! Wikimetrics is
experiencing problems. Visit the Support page for help if this persists. You
can also check the console for details.". Problem is, I'm not a tech
magician, so I don't really know how to proceed. The Support page apparently
doesn't mention my case, and the console report tells me nothing (there is
some "INTERNAL SERVER ERROR" there, surrounded by plenty of computer lingo I
don't really understand).
I reported my problem at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Analytics/Wikimetrics, but apparently
that talk page is not really frequented by anyone. So, what is the proper
way to go from where I am at the moment?
In other words: help J

Hello,
I familiarized myself with Wikimetrics here in Wikimedia conference. I
managed to make one report which will return empty results because the
start and end dates are the same, but when I made new ones, they are in
"pending" status for many hours.
First I thought that the problem is that because I set the end date in
future, the report is pending until the end time is reached. But: then I
made another report with past end date and have the same problem. Can
anyone see the what is the problem? My username is "Vesa Linja-aho".
I attached the screenshot.[image: Tekstiin lisättävä kuva 1]

Hello,
when using Wikimetrics on iPhone, the date selection is not visible (see
the two attached screenshots).
Is this a known problem or should I file a bug report on this?

Hi everyone,
Marcel, Dan and the Analytics team have completed a new feature for
Wikimetrics, which just went live.
Now, if you experience a report failure, instead of just seeing a message
that says "FAILURE", you will see a button that you can click to re-run the
report without leaving the page.
While not every error that leads to a failed report will be fixed by this
feature, it *should* make it easier to recover from the database
connectivity issue that many Wikimetrics users experienced earlier this
year (and which some folks may still be experiencing intermittently). This
issue resulted in a lot of wasted effort and frustration, since users had
no choice but to start the report process all over again after each failure.
Database connectivity for Wikimetrics has improved since then--we only had
31 failed reports in April, down from 750 in January--but hopefully this
new feature helps ameliorate the frustration of these outages, when they do
occur.
Next up for Wikimetrics: allow users set shared parameters for multiple
metrics reports (like start and end date) once, rather than having to do it
for each metric individually. (Phabricator task

We are deploying the changes showcased today (Jonathan will write about it
later). Just letting y'all know because wikimetrics will be down for a few
minutes while we do this. I'll write back when it's done.
Apparently Wikimetrics seemed to be "stuck" validating a cohort. @ragesoss
pinged us on IRC and I rebooted the machine, and it no longer seems
"stuck". This is no big deal and no reason for an email. Except to say,
if you experience something similar, do ping us on IRC and we can maybe
save you some time.
happy metrics...ing :)
