Dear colleagues,
I am working on establishing a long-term partnership with an NGO named ITOCA, dedicated to education training in Africa[1]. One aspect of our proposed cooperation would be to introduce Wikipedia training to the curriculum in teacher trainings ITOCA delivers. I have sent them some training materials to review and think about, based on the training materials[2][3] that Limoke and I had prepared for the Setswana Wikipedia Challenge[4].
The operate throughout sub-Saharan Africa, but there is an opportunity to be involved close to home: they are to deliver training at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, between Nov 29th and Dec 1st. They would like to try incorporating Wikipedia training at this opportunity, and both they and I think it would be best if we can involve a Wikipedian in this first time we try to incorporate Wikipedia into their training curriculum.
Would one of the WMKE members who have some experience in editing *and* in training be interested in going? We cover the airfare and accommodation, and will pay a small "per diem" allowance for meals and local transport.
Thanks in advance,
Asaf

Hi, My Pleasure. This would go hand in hand with what I am doing at the moment- creating training content for teachers at Bridge international. I am therefore willing and ready to participate. Thanks

Hi, My wikipedia user name is Beliot. I first joined wikipedia in 2009. I have been dormant over that time then I met Steven who introduced me to the wikimedia Kenya mailing list and the local community. Am a IT student at jkuat and am passionate about all things computing and technology. Bett
Hi, Asaf +1,
Thank you for this awesome opportunity and for explicitly explaining whats expected of the representative from WMKE. From the recent trends it seems WMKE inavuka boda ..(is crossing the boarders).
Having fully understood the nature and purpose of this visit, I would really like to participate in this project in Tanzania.

It looks as though Bukoba is even farther than Nairobi from Dar es Salaam... :)

Hi Asaf,
They would like to try
incorporating Wikipedia training at this opportunity, and both they and I think it would be best if we can involve a Wikipedian in this first time we try to incorporate Wikipedia into their training curriculum.
What kind of training would it be? Is it about basics of editing Wikipedia?
Best,

Yes, but also, even before editing, about the basics of _reading_ and _navigating_ Wikipedia -- "anatomy of an article", categories, links, interwiki links, finding help, asking questions on talk pages, etc.
It's probably fairly open: they are reviewing some of the curriculum you and I have prepared, and perhaps they'll have some specific topics they would like covered, but I expect it's mostly up to us to set the curriculum, given a time frame from them.
