Hi guys,
I got to visit Carolina for Kibera (CFK) yesterday along with Dennis, Mr.
Ting and Jon.
They have several initiatives set up in Kibera slums to aid in the
improvement of the livelyhood of people living here. They included a girls
center, sports center and a clinic.
We got to visit the clinic which receives an average of two hundred patients
per day. All patient information is processed and recorded by a networked
computer based system and I must say as an IT student, I was impresed. At
first glimpse you can't tell the high level of activity and organization
going on within until you get a tour.
CFK will be marking it's 10th anniversary this April and would appreciate
Wikimedia Kenya's (unchapter) presence during this time.
They'd also like us to assist in writing articles about their projects. It's
been a while since my last article so I guess this is a good opportunity for
me to get going again.
I'll post updates regarding this once I receive word from Jeff (one of the
guys working at CFK) in relation to their anniversary and articles.
Ps: from a partnership with a Netherlands NGO, they got access to a mobile
computer lab (within a bus) powered by solar; how cool is that!!!
Being the 15th, a happy anniversary to Wikipedia!!
Cheer,
Alex.
