Jambo wote,
I have been busy this past month with OLPC projects as some of you know. It has been really exciting and I must say while at it, I got to create a number of opportunities where we could possibly work hand in hand. Especially in creating content (The Kenya Syllabus ZIM file)
I also distributed the Offlione Wikipedia to Teachers in Kisumu, Butere, Bungoma, Taita and Kampala and they all were so excited. Today we are meeting the Assistant Minister for Higher Education who will introduce us to the KIE guys ( whom we really tried hard to loop in during the Offline Project in vain ). I am sure to loop in our Offline Project to the Minister and the KIE guys and see if we could get some support from them. We have lots of rely Education oriented activities lined up for the year and am sure we as WMKE will feature in many of them.
So stay tuned :-)
Yours,
Awesome work, Oscar! Keep us posted :-) Cheers,Abbas

This is excellent, Oscar!
Has Chrys Kakoba been able to finish localization OLPC to Swahili?
Also: how are we doing on finalizing the content for the Kenya curriculum ZIM file? Are we done identifying the articles?
Cheers,
Asaf

Waasalamu,
So we had the meetup with the Minister and the KIE folks and glad to say that they seemed cooperative ( due to the presence of the Minister :-) ) . We have a follow up meetup scheduled next week and I think they will give me the official syllabus so that we could quickly use it as a guide for working on the Local ZIM file.
KIE however have nice Digital and online content of their own too, See http://www.elimika.ac.ke/
Asaf, Am not sure Chris has even started work on the Localization, I will let you know of the progress when we have a meetup tomorrow
Best,
Oscar - this is really awesome to hear about. Thank you for the update!
Is the elimika content available under a free license? can you help them work on this if not?
SJ
PS - Also, I enjoyed your update on using the Map Activity with students :-) keep up the great work.

Hi Sj,
Is the elimika content available under a free license? can you help them work on this if not?
The elimika content is currently restricted to practicing teachers and its for free. Thank you for bringing this up, I will talk to them about it in our next week about the possibility of licensing it under free license ( I however am skeptical because they have DVD versions that they sell and they really have strong security on them, non-copyable :-) )
However one favor they can do to us is get the full Kenya Curricula which am sure they will and we will use that to create locally relevant content ( Wikimedia) and Activities (OLPC )
PS - Also, I enjoyed your update on using the Map Activity with students :-) keep up the great work. :-), Thanks
Yours,
Hi Oscar!
I would love to better understand what you were doing with OLPC! I'm sure you know there was a Kiwix for Sugar that is available now; were you able to use it?
Also, I am wondering about your distribution to teachers in all those other areas! It sounds awesome! I would love to know where you went and an estimate of how many students are in those schools - it would be great if we could update our distribution map! http://g.co/maps/52qjv
Hope you are well. Talk to you soon, and thanks for the AWESOME work! Jessie
