Hey all, At this point, it's proving hard to understand our characters on the mailing list! Bt it is_ @obvious :no one should take anything personally! For that matter, Abbas, Alex and Oscar I think you should discuss and come to an agreement who is going! The rest of us will trust the three of you then to do us proud! cheers, Lilian.

Oh my God! Could we please maintain civility? We are all volunteers here and Oscar, please remember this in your choice of words. I do not want to lose any member (including both of you) at this very early stage of WMKE, and once again, please be careful with your choice of words. While I presume that you may have not meant any harm to Isaac, he has been offended. And Isaac, please assume good faith. Oscar might have gotten a bit carried away and I do hope that this will not happen again. My apologies,Abbas.

Oscar, with all due respect kindly avoid using those harsh words. I would really like to emulate your point of view and esp. the part you say we demonstrate maturity but I beg to differ with you esp when you use those insulting words like keep your mouth shut,,,,,
I am sorry if this will not go well with you but No offence intended I beg your pardon in advance Oscar.
I am afraid its time some of us get out of Wikimedia Kenya coz its so painful to see such harsh exchange of words over a matter that can be solved tru positive discussion

Guys,
I think we are/have demonstrated the highest level of immaturity on
this one.Just what do we think we have demonstrated t the world?lets
try to be civil and accommodating in our discussions.and above
all, lets make informed arguments and discussions .its very
embarrassing to see people talking trash about things and they have no
idea of.
Its well and wise to keep your mouth shut than open it to proove
otherwise to us and the rest of the world.
I personally was not opposed to Grace's idea of voting, just felt like
Alex put it,this is being immature and rushing things.plus,Grace,as
Abbas put it,Who did u intend to vote?the criteria of voting?and why
would people vote say for me yet they have no idea of my input and
participation in the KWC?that would be promoting populism which is not
good for a volunteer movement like us.we are not supposed to encourage
competition or populism, flexing our muscles to see wh has got the
bigger say or last word would just serve to scare potential and very
dedicated members like myself and others I wouldn't mention.lets
accommodate each others opinion and views and not exert our
muscles....
i must say I was quite unhappy with your total disregard to my
concerns and went ahead to carry/publish the poll without addressing
them or validating your course or atleast informing me and the group
of the whole idea of voting rather than another option.......

hi Alex, et al.,
I don't know the right way to do this, but to avoid a lot of unnecessary
debates over who should go and how we decide whose going; I think it's best
if the participants themselves first discuss what they want off-list. If
the participants are comfortable with discussing and deciding who should go
-- well and good. If they can not decide, then they can request for a
broader input from the mailing list.
I don't know how we will do it, but i am ready to discuss this with Oscar &
Alex first (off-list).

Hey Abbas,
As I've hinted on my previous post, this is not the right way of coducting
an election.
Grace, this all seems rushed and forced and currently, Oscar's idea seems
better.
Alex.

Grace,
thanks for the link. However, Oscar earlier shared his concerns over who
has the right to vote. Which brings me to the question: is everyone OK
with Grace overseeing the voting process or do you want the Kiswahili
Wikipedia Challenge participants to decide for themselves?

Greetings Wiki-medians, I hope this finds you all well. Today has been quite 'interesting' as it seems so far; but as initially stated, let us maintain our cool even when expressing our disagreements. Anyway, we are all humans, and we can't avoid to err at some point or another. So lets not lose anyone because of a simple challenge like this put before us. This is quite normal, so lets pick ourselves up and find the best way to choose who will go and represent us in South Africa.
I must commend Grace's efforts in trying to find a suitable solution to try and beat the deadlock. However, in the presence of serious opposition especially from the relevant participants, I think it would not be suitable for our plan to commence Grace. So lets here this gentlemen out first before we can finalize on that voting idea.
Therefore, I would suggest that Abbas, Oscar, Alex and Others form a string and tell us why they think that they can be able to do this on there own or why voting by all the members is not necessary.
On the other hand, I, Grace and the others who feel that voting is necessary are similarly going to form a string giving reasons as expected therein.
I intend this to go on until tomorrow ten o'clock in the morning where a final decision would be made on whether or not the entire members will vote on the matter (representative to go to S. A).
As said it is a suggestion and I require you guys to second it before it can take effect or be discarded. Thank you and lets get through this in one piece. Have a great evening all.
FYI -- I did not oppose Grace's voting idea: if you could retrace her thread, you'll find out that I was the first one to support her. I changed my mind after the chaos that arose and found it better if the three of us deal with it off-list. There's no need of making it public at the expense of losing more Wikimedians. --Abbas.
