Hi guys,
As promised, I contacted Wikimedia Foundation regarding the issues raised in the meetup:
*Legal Standing The Foundation does not recognise us as breaking any law: we are merely a proactive community.
*Identity It's quite difficult for us to use the Wikimedia Kenya logo at the moment, since we are not an official chapter yet. Alternatively, we can print name tags, shirts with "Wikimedia in Kenya". Moreover, the Foundation is willing to give us a letter of support for the project.
*Launch of the Project A representative MIGHT be sent to attend the event.
For those who didn't attend the meeting, Grace is working on the minutes and she'll post them up soon.
As Grace had suggested at the meetup, the letters from the Ministry and the WMF are sufficient enough to use when approaching schools. With that sorted out, I think that we should now finalise drafting the proposal so that we can submit it to the Ministry of Education.
Regards, Abbas.
Great work Abbas, lets all forge a way forward based on this information.
We can work with badges and the letter from WMF would be of great help at this stage.
David.

By the time we finalise on the nitty gritty, I believe that the Foundation will have the letter ready for us.
Just a reminder, the following parts of the proposal are sitll unfinished:
*Pilot (details, coverage, etc) *Methodology (I don't know whether 'methodology' should be under 'pilot' or a topic on its own???) *Budget
If we could split and get volunteer(s) working on each of the above sections, we might as well come up with afinal draft by the end of the week.
Yours, Abbas.

We have already identified the regions for the pilot.thats a good start.i thoughe we said that every individual to go their home town during the chrismas holiday.al we needed was the identity.i think the pilot should be conducted over the holiday.when we hold our january meeting, every individual should have the results.
i was for the idea that the foundation could give us official letters which we can use to conduct the pilot with.
about the party,is the foundation willing to fund us, should we write a budget?we need to know that so that we can start planning and inviting these guests as soon as possible.

Grace,
Bearing in mind that you are new to the team, let me break down the process for you, chronologically:
1. Writing up the proposal. Since, we agreed on 10 schools each, we can therefore come up with an estimate of the pilot's budget.
2. Submitting the proposal to Wikimedia Foundation and the Ministry of Education.
3. Getting the above's approval & confirming funding possibilities.
4. By Dec./Jan. 2011 - start date of project.
5. Jan 14 - official launch.
~Abbas.
