Greetings, Eric Zachte, Wikimedia's Data Analyst has come up with a visualisation map that shows the Wikipedia edits made from all over the world. For more info, check this out: http://blog.wikimedia.org/2011/05/22/new-interactive-visualization-shows-glo.... One thing that caught my eye: *There are some edits in Kenya that are made on the Spanish Wikipedia. Kenya & South Africa are the only countries in Africa that had Spanish editors during May 2011: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Global_distribution_of_Wikipedia_edit... Yours, Abbas.
Hi all,
Do you realise that Kenyan languages are increasingly used on the web?
Take Twitter, for example:
Dholuo - http://indigenoustweets.com/luo/
Gikuyu - http://indigenoustweets.com/ki/
Also, there are a couple of WMF projects in Kenyan languages in the incubator:
Dholuo wikipedia - http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/luo
Maasai wikisource - (listed in http://wikisource.org/wiki/Wikisource:Languages but no main page yet)
Let's not forget the marginalised language groups!
I'd be happy to hear any ideas you might have for further involvement.
Cheers,
Oliver (aka BT)
