Hey Dennis,
>From the chat we had, we reasoned that the main aim of a pilot should be for us to determine the costs and dificulties involved in taking up this project country wide.
That's why we suggested these regions as they tend to represent the whole country. As for Nairobi, we since most of us live here, we already know the costs and dificulties that may be involved.
Although I'd vouch for Nairobi to be included in the pilot for guys tied here by exams and other stuff to participate.

Hi guys,
Yesterday I got to have an impromptu chat with the newest of the members: Jessica & Sameer. Since both of them come from Strath, I also invited the rest of the Strath team. Jessica had the following suggestions regarding the launch and the pilot program:
*That we host the launch at Strathmore Auditorium*, to cut down on venue expenses;*That the pilot should cover about 3 regions (and not the initial 10. It is a ''pilot'', after all.)*Since this was not a formal meetup, there were no minutes taken - so pardon me if there is any other issue that was raised that I have left out.
After Jessica left, the rest of us (Alex, Sameer and myself) debated on which 3 regions we would select. I suggested that it would be logical to first cut off the regions that did not yet have the ten schools. These were: Kisii, Nakuru, Laikipia, Kericho & Eldamaravin. The regions that are complete, as of today are: Mombasa, Nairobi, kakamega, Meru, Vihiga & Nyeri. Out of these six: we chose:
1. Mombasa, Coast Province2. Nyeri, Central Province.3. Kakamega, Western Province.
The above three regions are diverse and will give us a fair representation of what to expect when we move countrywide, as we would have had different experiences from these three provinces.
Please note that the above were our suggestions only, and you all have the right to voice out your suggestions as well. I think Alex/Sameer/Jessica/Ann will fill in any details that I might have left out.
Thanks,Abbas.

Hi guys,
The next annual Wikimedia conference, Wikimania, is scheduled to take place in Haifa, Israel in August 4-7 2011. See: http://wikimania2011.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.
As always, there are limited scholarships given out to those who are in financial need. Scholarship applications will begin in Jan 1 - 31, 2011. Please see a mock application form so that you may have a feel of the questions that are typically asked: https://wmschols.wikimedia.ch/
I urge you guys to take your time in thinking of the answers that you'll give; since in Wikimania 2010, only 1 out of the 20+applicants from Kenya was granted the scholarship. Also, there were a total of over 2,500 applicants last year, and only 100 of them got the scholarships: so competition is very stiff!
RegardsAbbas.

Hi guys,
Once again, please complete at list ten schools for the pilot program: https://spreadsheets0.google.com/ccc?key=tICLeT7WorQ9F5aVTZAkQbQ&hl=en#gid=0
For instance Eldamaravin doesn't have a single school in it. Kericho, Laikipia, Kisii, and Nakuru are still incomplete. I was impressed by the work of an unknown user who created a new row of Nyeri and managed to fill 10 schools!!! If the above-mentioned regions will remain blank or incomplete; then we'll be forced to change regions to where we can find a volunteer who'll give us the 10 schools (like what happened with Nyeri.)
Still regarding the same, I've filled in a row of Transportation. Please indicate the transport cost from Nairobi to your region, for budgeting purposes.
Best,
Abbas.

the idea to reach out for schools and endow them with information earlier is
a big step towards ICT enhancement in the country. kudos to the architects
of the thought!
