Hey guys,I filed a bug for the indexing problem we were experiencing with Kiwix. The solution for this comes in a Microsoft library.Follow the link below to get the download link for the library. Note that this is applicable to XP's where the indexing process doesn't work for Kiwix.Steve, please try it out during the Nyeri pilot and let me know if it works so I can give feedback on whether to close the bug or continue to search for a fix.Cheers,Alex.

Hey Jessie,
Thanks for the link. Though it had a dot at the end hence linking to the wrong page. I think this should be Ok: meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Offline_Projects
I believe we can provide most of the info required on the map considering we kept records of the number of computers in which we installed Kiwix as well as other details.
Hope to have the data up soon.
cheers,
Alex.

So, for example, it would be great to include the copy of your WfS User Manuel.

I won't be able to make it for the Nyeri pilot due to prior commitments. However, I'm sure we'll get a full team for Nyeri.
Awesome work in setting this up Steve.
Cheers,
Alex.

Hello guys,
Let me first start by congratulating Stephen in his efforts to finalize the 3rd and final phase of the Wikipedia for Schools project.
Secondly, I would like to urge the Nyeri team to prioritize those who haven't participated in the prior regions (such as Grace and Ann). I believe that these people should first be given an opportunity to go, before giving room to others who went to Kakamega and Mombasa.
Thirdly, I must say (and the Kakamega & Mombasa team leaders will agree with me on this) that we overspent in Kakamega and Mombasa at the unfortunate expense of Nyeri. This is due to a number of reasons including:-the unfavourable bank exchange rate,
-Kakamega team increased cost of internal transport,-Kakamega incresed cost of previsit,-Mombasa increased cost of accommodation.
So, what do we do now? Oscar, Stephen and I are from having a discussion regarding the above. Taking our experiences from Mombasa and Kakamega, we all agreed that 6 people per school is a little too much. We have therefore proposed a cut from 6 people to 4 people. What are your thoughts?
PS -- Being the first time for us to budget, I do believe that it's not a really bad thing for us to overspend.

Hello!
I just wanted to direct your attention to the new offline portal on the
meta-wiki that is to be used to track all offline projects! It can be
found here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Offline_Projects. The goal
is that this is the place where all the offline materials and lessons
learned will be codified and able to access. So, for example, it would
be great to include the copy of your WfS User Manuel.
In particular, I was hoping you could help with populating a map
designed to capture where all the offline distributions have taken
place. See this Google Map
<http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=2004448215665451857…>.
There are a few examples already installed, but for each location we
would basically want to include:
* Number of offline distributions: (i.e., #computers)
* Number impacted: (e.g., # of students + teachers)
* Content: (e.g., "Wikipedia for Schools")
* Language: (e.g., "English")
* Contact: (e.g., "Samson Maosa & Isaac Kosgei" (or usernames))
* Other/Notes: (if applicable)
It would be great if we could have flags for each school the offline
project has been uploaded. If you need help populating the map, please
let me know, and I am happy to send instructions on how to do so.
Let me know what questions you have! And please feel free to contribute
to the wiki in whatever way you think is most valuable: reorganizing,
uploading content, data, etc.
Thanks for your help! Hope you think this is valuable: I think it will
be a great way to organize volunteers, but also a great place to direct
partners to who are interested in learning more information about the
purpose of the project (e.g., Ministry of Education).

Hi folks,
I just had a private email exchange with Oliver in which I suggested the idea of having a WikiSaturday where we all meet on the last Saturday of the month at iHub and do some editing of Wikipedia. I think that this will be of great help to all of us since personally, i haven't edited Wikipedia for a while now since I'm pre-occuppied with chapter stuff, but when we are all together, it'll give me a sense of motivation to edit more :)
Looking forward to receiving your feedback.
