Hi All,
Here is the link to a grant in progress, which is being written by Marek
Zielinski and Łukasz Chełmiński of the Pilsudski Institute of America in
New York. They are hoping to do a project to make categorization and adding
metadata easier for GLAMs contributing content to Wikipedia.
I have not assisted with the drafting of this grant much at all, but just
met with them, and I understand that they will be adding a budget and
timeline, potential collaborators in WikiProjects, and WikiData, as well as
the GLAM-Wiki toolkit, etc. - describing roles and what they will do in
terms of documentation in more detail soon.
In the meantime, I just want to let you all know that it exists, since they
are in New York, and that they are seeking endorsement.

I've heard word from another Wikimedia NYC member, that he will be applying
for a grant as well.
We also have a draft of the inter chapter travel grant which Lane and I
will be working on tonight and tomorrow.

If anyone wants to help with this, please email us. We will no longer be
applying for the grant With Wikimedia NE as they are currently on a sort of
leave of absence.
That's all for now.
Thanks all,
Dorothy

I'm excited to announce the following event:
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM TO HOST WIKIPEDIA “GUGG-A-THON” IN EARLY OCTOBER
The Guggenheim Museum will host a Wikipedia “Gugg-a-thon” on Tuesday,
October 7, 2014 from 2pm - 8pm, to support contributions to Wikipedia’s
content on museum architecture. Join us at the Guggenheim to add
information about museum architecture to the world’s largest source of free
knowledge during the fourth annual month-long Archtober festival.
The program will include welcoming remarks by notable scholars in the field
of museum architecture, an overview of the Guggenheim’s own architecture
and design, and background on Wikipedia’s role as an institutional partner.
The agenda also includes a free, backstage, architectural tour of the
Guggenheim Museum. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration
strongly recommended. Remote participation encouraged.

Hi All,
I've just started a Wikimedia PEG Grant draft for a joint grant application
between Wikimedia NYC and Wikimedia NE (the page is currently mostly just a
template, but it's a start).
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:PEG/WM_NYCWM_NE/Inter-chapter_travel…
The grant will detail a project first proposed in the WMF IdeaLab
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/WM_NYC,_NE_inter-chapter_eve…>,
the purpose of which is to establish a small scholarship program between
Wikimedia NYC and Wikimedia NE so that members of these two groups and be
compensated for travel and room and board (if necessary) so that they can
attend regional wiki events without incurring financial burden.
I will be working with members of Wikimedia NE to complete this grant
application, and will seek review from the memberships of both WM NYC and
WM NE before the grant is submitted. That said, if anyone would like to be
apart of this grant writing process, please let me know and/or chime in
on-wiki.
All the best,
Dorothy Howard

Hi All,
Can anyone provide an update as to whether Wikimedia NYC will participate
in the September 20nd & 21st Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science in
Queens? I know Richard mentioned that we may be able to share a booth with
another group, but I'm forgetting who. (?)
http://makerfaire.com/
I'd be really interested in going and helping volunteer if such a booth
exists. Otherwise, perhaps we could still go as a Wikimedia NYC group and
wear our Wikipedia shirts/ 'advertise' the Chapter and Chapter activities
in some way.
Thoughts?
Kind regards,
Dorothy Howard
