Hi Wikimedia NYC!
I have just published a 3-month, mid-grant report for the WMF PEG grant I
received in July, on Meta:

If you have any question or comment, please don't hesitate to contact me
directly or post on the talk page.
All the best,

Dear NYC Wikipedians,
Sorry for the barrage of emails today (!) but I wanted to send a separate
invitation for a *non-METRO-related Wikipedia event* that I've been
planning with Sian Evans, Michael Mandiberg, and Jacqueline Mabey of
the *Art+Feminism
*Wikipedia group.
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/ArtAndFeminism>
*ArtAndFeminism Train the Trainers / October 27 2014 / CUNY Graduate Center*
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/ArtAndFeminism_Training_…
Thus, this is not your regular Edit-a-thon, but a lesson-planned event to
get professionals and those that want to be event facilitators up to speed
on how to run edit-a-thons and what they need to know about editing to be a
future Edit-a-thon trainer.
The event aspires to be an opportunity to train future facilitators of
Edit-a-thons - particularly ArtandFeminism Edit-a-thons, which our group
will be organizing in the Spring to coincide with the anniversary of last
year's <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/ArtAndFeminism_2014>
successful and highly reported-on Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon campaign.
I invite you to come and participate in this event, especially if you want
to learn about and discuss how to be a better Edit-a-thon facilitator.
If you have any questions, again, please do not hesitate to contact me or
one of the other organizers.
All the best,
Dorothy Howard

Dear Wikimedia NYC community,
Tomorrow the Metropolitan New York Library Council is hosting a reception
and GLAM-Wiki networking event that will also celebrate the one-year
anniversary of METRO’s engagement with Wikipedia, and my residency, which
started a bit over a year ago now, last August, 2014. If you are interested
in coming and talking to METRO area librarians and archivists in an
informal setting, feel free to come by - registration required! We have
around 30 METRO members currently registered. Event details below.
I will also be hosting a 3-part Wikipedia webcast series for METRO, which
will kick off with our first session on October 27th at 2pm. Details below.
If you have any questions about either event, please call or email me at
dhoward(a)metro.org

Thanks,
Dorothy
*One Year of Wikipedia at METRO*
http://metro.org/events/553/
This reception and networking event celebrates the one-year anniversary of
METRO’s engagement with Wikipedia and its creation of the
Wikipedian-in-Residence and Open Data Fellow position. Attendees are
invited to connect and socialize with others interested in Wikipedia, Open
Data, and Open Access Projects.
During the reception, Dorothy Howard, METRO’s Wikipedian-in-Residence, will
give a “State of the Wiki in NYC” with observations about Wikipedia
initiatives in New York, and her thoughts on the future of the Open Access
movement in New York. Brief lightning talks on successful METRO Wikipedia
projects by Marek Zielinski, Megan Wacha, and other special guests will
follow.
This event is open at no cost to METRO members and all those interested in
attending.
*Webcast: Reference and Citation on Wikipedia and the Library*
http://metro.org/events/562/
In recent years, Wikipedia has collaborated with libraries to improve the
quality of Wikipedia’s reference and citation. Aspects of this engagement
include streamlining Wikipedia citation practices; working to increase
fully-available open access references to readers; collaborations with
libraries to develop Wikipedia library internships; and more. The options
available for libraries to engage with Wikipedia have only increased.
METRO's upcoming three-part webcast series will explore three areas of
interest to librarians with presentations by leaders of current
collaborative Wikipedia projects.
On Monday, October 27th, the first webcast series installment will focus on
citation and reference on Wikipedia. This session will include
presentations from leaders of four different projects to improve
Wikipedia’s reference and citation: Andy Mabbett, Wikipedian-in-Residence at
ORCID
<http://blog.scholasticahq.com/post/87810012013/interview-with-andy-mabbett-…>
(the
Open Researcher and Contributor ID, an authority control) and the Royal
Society of Chemistry
<http://pigsonthewing.org.uk/wikimedian-residence-royal-society-chemistry/>;
Jake Orlowitz, founder of the Wikipedia Library
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Library>; Ed
Saperia, Project Lead of the Open Access Reader Project
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Open_Access_Reader>; and Daniel Mietchen,
biophysicist and web projects at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin and
member of the “WikiProject Open Access/Signaling OA-ness (Open Access)
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Open_Access/Signalling_…>
."
*To access the live program, simply visit METRO's YouTube channel
<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmTOag7JZ-qrTZDpN4fNwTA> between 2:00 PM
and 3:15 PM on Monday, October 27th. Registration is not required. *A
