Hi everyone,
Close to 250 people participated in virtual Global Conversations that took
place on November 21 and 22. The discussion continues on December 5 and 6
and we warmly invite you to take part. Registration is open until December
4. [1]
What happened already
Nearly 50 communities and affiliates shared their priorities in advance and
can continue to do so. [2] Based on those priorities, the first set of
events on Nov. 21+22 took discussions further by asking Wikimedians from
around the world which of the 45 Movement Strategy initiatives are most
important to globally coordinate and start implementing in 2021. For some
of the initiatives, implementation means further discussions and scoping.
Take a look at the results. [3] What do you think about the priorities?
What is missing? What would make you want to play an active role in
implementation?
Coordination will vary from one initiative to another. Some can be
implemented on their own, some will involve diverse communities and
affiliates of different sizes working together, and others may require
support from the Wikimedia Foundation.
What happens next
During the next set of discussions on December 5 and 6, we will focus on
the top global priorities and start discussing what implementation can
actually look like. What are the steps needed to put Strategy into action?
Everyone’s invited to help enrich these conversations. Since implementation
will be different from one context to another, we need as many voices as
possible included to create a movement-wide implementation plan.
Based on the feedback, we would like to continue the great momentum of the
first set of events and will provide social opportunities for Wikimedians
to connect. We will also provide space to hold short lightning talks [4] on
how to implement certain initiatives. If you have ideas, please share them
with others.
If you are unable to attend, we will share the results and raw data on Meta
so we can still benefit from your input.
What is provided
As for the first set of events, we will provide live interpretation in
Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Russian, and Spanish. In the
registration form, please let us know if you require language support as
well as internet data package upgrade or childcare for the duration of the
event.
Familiarize yourself with the initiatives already prioritized, register
early, and continue the conversation on December 5 and 6. See you there.
On behalf of the Support Team,
Kaarel

Wikimedia Foundation <https://wikimediafoundation.org/>
Hi everyone,
With two weeks to go until the global meetings, the Movement Strategy
Support Team would like to share some important information with you.
The Movement Strategy Global Conversations will take place on Saturday
November 21, 11:00 to 15:00 UTC, and Sunday November 22, 17:00 to 21:00 UTC
[1]. Both events are the same, offered at different times to have
participation from different regions and communities.
Regardless of your knowledge of Movement Strategy, you’re warmly invited to
attend one of the calls. We have also developed a simple open source game
to help you brush up on your knowledge! Download the game here [2].
The focus of the meetings on Nov. 21 and 22 will be to look at priorities
identified by communities and affiliates [3], and to begin to create a
movement-wide implementation plan for 2021. Most of the work during the
calls will be in small group discussions. We will also set aside time for
socializing and (re)connecting with other Wikimedians.
Updates will be shared on wiki for parallel input and for those that are
unable to join the calls. The discussion space is already open [4]. There
will be a second set of events on December 5 and 6 to take the work further
and to discuss specific actions around the identified priorities. We will
adapt the second set of events based on the experience of the first and
welcome your feedback.
Registration
-
Please register so we can share the login information with you before
the call. [5] Registration remains open until Nov. 20.
-
The meeting will take place on Zoom. Zoom was chosen as a platform that
many Wikimedians are already familiar with and one that allows live
interpretation and breakout rooms.
Participation
-
We are exploring ways to provide support for those that need it — for
example, for a reliable internet connection, data top-up, or childcare
during the events. Please indicate this in the registration form.
-
We would also like to remind everyone of our Friendly Space policy [6]
so we could have constructive conversations and everyone feels welcomed to
contribute.
As we get closer to the events, we will share the detailed program and
other useful information with you. In the meantime, if you have any
questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Support
Team via Telegram [7], Wikimedia Chat [8] or by email at strategy2030{{at}}
wikimedia.org.

Hi all, and apologies if you receive this email several times – I will be
posting it to multiple mailing lists.
Wikimedia Norge would like to organize a regional Wikimedia Diversity
Conference in 2020 for Europe, with the hope of many other regional
conferences on the same topic being held in the near future. The Wikimedia
Diversity Conference 2020 will provide a meeting place for discussing,
debating and generating recipes for change concerning diversity in the
Wikimedia movement.
We will be sharing more updates regarding a possible conference later in
2020. For now, we are working on drafting a grant proposal to the Wikimedia
Foundation to support the conference. As part of the drafting the proposal,
a Community Engagement Survey is crucial to understand what community
members are expecting out of such conference. In that regard, Wikimedia
Norge invite all those who are interested in the topic of diversity to take
part in the survey.
Please take the survey here

*Participants*
For a Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2020 we would like to invite
participants who are decision-makers in the movement (volunteers, board or
staff members of a Wikimedia affiliate) or highly engaged in projects about
knowledge equity and diversity. The conference will be an opportunity for
the participants to discuss solutions for implementation of the 2030
movement strategy
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20> on
knowledge equity.

Sorry for the delay in answering. WMSE would prefer 18-20 October as we
have a scheduled board meeting on the 5 October. Also, the hackathon Hack
for heritage is the 4-6 October.

Hi!
The next Nordic meeting would be held in Estonia. For that to happen, we
need to make some preparations, and first could be determining the specific
date of the event.
We are considering October 4-6 or 18-20. Are there any preferences or we'll
just choose randomly? :)
// CEE meeting is on October 11-13; WikidataCon will be held on Oct 25-26.
So if we'll have it in October, then there are only two suitable weekends
to choose from.
As a note: we plan to cover the transportation & accommodation related
costs inside the borders of Estonia; getting people to Estonia (and taking
them back home) will be on you to deal with (as this is likely to most
reasonable thing for all sides).
The general logistical plan is that Friday would be more like sightseeing
in Tallinn & getting to know people (i.e. picking people up from the
airport, showing the town and having a joint dinner with Estonian
Wikipedians). After that, we'll take a train to Tartu and spend the next
1,5 days on more intense work.
As for the program part, we are still thinking about how should we set the
focus on this event. With some of you, there were also program-related
discussions in Berlin, but for the other members of this list, just wait
until May.
TL;DR: I'd like to have a replay from every country about if there is any
preference regarding the dates of the event.
Regards,
Ivo Kruusamägi
