Movement Strategy - call for Working Group participation

Dear regional partners and friends in strategizing, I am happy to invite you all to participate in the Working Groups of the Phase II movement strategy discussions! I am forwarding the initial call that the Program Manager Nicole Ebber posted in Wikimedia-l. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out! ___ *Dear Wikimedians, Following up on Katherine’s email from last week[1], we are today opening the call for Working Group members for 9 Thematic Areas (yes, we added one more!).== Working Group members == The Working Groups will map the present situation of their Thematic Area, the obstacles and opportunities, as well as needed changes. They will identify possible strategies for making these changes and develop concrete recommendations for the movement on how to ratify and implement them.[2] Working Group members will need to be able to invest a minimum of 5 hours per week, but that time might vary depending on the workflow that each group agrees upon. Members of the Working Groups are expected to act in the interest of the movement, not in the interest of their own organization or community. == Selection of members ==We are looking for a maximum of 15 members for each of the 9 groups. For best results we will need a diverse set of members from across the movement. We have developed a set of criteria, to ensure the necessary expertise, diversity, and representation.[3] We will assemble a Steering Committee to decide upon membership of the Working Groups in close coordination with the Core Strategy Team.[4] == Apply to become a working group member == We encourage everyone with an interest in the strategic conversations to apply for becoming a Working Group member in their topic of expertise. We recommend that movement organizations and groups create internal processes for the selection of their candidates to avoid multiple, competing applications. The call will be open until June 25, 2018. Save the date: Wikimedia Northern Europe Meeting [WikiNEM] 5-7 October 2018

Hi everybody, Due to logistics, we've rescheduled the Wikimedia Northern Europe Meeting 2018 <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Northern_Europe_Meeting_2018> for October. We have the venue, conference facilitator and teams from WMNO and WMSE all locked in for these dates. The event will be on *6-7 October* as the main dates. For early arrivals there will be some type of social activity on Friday evening 5 October. We hope that these dates will work for most of you. Based on the experience we gained from the Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017 we hope to create a program that is highly interactive. later in June we will start planning with the conference facilitator and based on the feedback and thoughts presented in the *Community engagement survey* <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/Northern_Europe_Meeting_2…> we will create an initial draft of the program. Furthermore, we hope to have a pre-meetup at Wikimania in South Africa. Update about Northern Europe Meeting in Stockholm + question about dates

Hi everybody! I just wanted to give you a few updates: - We have preliminary booked a venue (in the same building as our new office). - We found a motel next to it which charge 975 per night (including breakfast and wifi). That would leave each participant receiving a scholarship of around 1,000 SEK (95 euro) for travel. - We are contacting a facilitator about availability as well. In our application we wrote that the event would take place 17-19 August. However, I was told at the Wikimedia Conference that this might create problems for some to participate. For WMSE's staff September would actually work much better. Would the general consensus be to move the event to a weekend in September instead? Wikimedia Foundation is okay with such a change. Event in Stockholm

Hi! Kacy at WMF told me yesterday afternoon that they will fund the scholarships, the facilitator and catering for the Northern Europe Meeting 2018, but not the work time for follow-up which we hoped for. This mean we can do a 2 day event as envisioned! WMSE will make sure we can secure the venue, accommodation and facilitator asap and we will get back with final confirmation of the dates. I hope to see active involvement from all chapters in the preparations and executions of this event. After all, this entire event is about joint activities 😊 I'll get back to you about planing meetings in the coming weeks. I am thrilled we will be able to welcome many of you to Stockholm shortly!
