Greetings everyone,
I am delighted to announce the first edition of *"Wiki Loves Muslim
Academia <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Muslim_Academia>",* a
new Wiki Loves Campaign, which aims to help document knowledge related to
global Muslim academia across Wikipedia projects.
For the first edition, *Wiki Loves Muslim Academia 2024*
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Muslim_Academia_2024>, we limit
ourselves to organising the campaign on Indic-language Wikis and the
English Wikipedia only, to take better care of on-wiki policies subject to
absence of a lot of helping people and teams.
We have compiled a set of instructions and other pages on the Meta-Wiki and
look forward to seeing Indian volunteers *contribute between 15 January and
16 February 2024! *The scope of the campaign has been highlighted on this
page <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Muslim_Academia_2024/Scope>
.
Should you have any questions, please let me know.
Best regards,
Aafi
Dear friends,
I am sorry for the late invitation. The twelfth DCW Conversation Hour is
happening tomorrow and Tanveer Hasan, the executive director of the Centre
for Internet and Society, India <https://cis-india.org/> (CIS), is our
featured speaker. The conversation hour aims at understanding the
complexities around affiliates and communities in the Wikimedia ecosystem.
Our speaker Tanveer has formerly worked with the Community Resources Team
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:THasan_(WMF)> at the Wikimedia
Foundation, where he supported the development of the Wikimedia movement in
South Asia. His expertise is not limited to the Wikimedia ecosystem. He has
previously been an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Indian Languages
in Higher Education at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Institute_of_Social_Sciences> (TISS),
in Mumbai, as well.
The conversation hour is scheduled at 6:00 pm IST (12:30 UTC) and you can
join through this link.
<https://hour.dcwwiki.org/event/dcw-conversation-hour-december-2023/> I
look forward to your meaningful participation in this conversation hour.

Greetings everyone,
I am thrilled to announce ThePoeticFrame
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:ThePoeticFrame> (Aasif Amin) as our
fellow for the Heritage Lens initiative
<https://dcwwiki.org/programs/heritage-lens/> at the DCW
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deoband_Community_Wikimedia>. The
initiative aims at improving Wikimedia Commons with thematic images related
to heritage supported by our theme.
ThePoeticFrame is one of the founding members of the Wiki Club Jamia
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Club_Jamia>, a student-led
extra-curricular club at Jamia Millia Islamia, in India. I have reviewed
some of his work and I am hopeful that his contributions to Heritage Lens
would help us lessen this gap on Wikimedia Commons.
This iteration of Heritage Lens is focusing on bringing media from Kashmir,
particularly, the culture and heritage-related media, which has mostly
remained un-documented.
*Thanks and regards,Aaqib Anjum Aafi*
