of WikiAfrica Hour "Mapping Africa: Visualizing Knowledge and Communities”
We are very excited to discuss this topic with the episode guests and your
joining is very valuable.
What can you expect from the episode?
Join us as we explore the power of maps in documenting, visualising, and
sharing knowledge across Africa on WikiAfrica Hour 🌍🗺️
In this episode, our guests dive into mapping projects that connect
geospatial data with Wikimedia platforms like Wikidata, Wikipedia, and
Wikimedia Commons. Discover how African communities are using maps to
capture local knowledge, respond to sustainability and climate challenges,
and amplify African knowledge on a global stage.
Who are the guest speakers?

Geoffrey Kateregga: Community Projects Lead at HOT (Humanitarian
OpenStreetMap Team) and a leading open knowledge advocate in Uganda. Active
with HOT since 2015, he has worked on projects including Ramani Huria
(Tanzania), Refugee Mapping (Uganda), Financial Inclusion, and LEGIT
(Liberia). A co-founder of OpenStreetMap Uganda and the Wikimedia
communities in Uganda, Geoffrey has also played a key role in Wiki Loves
Africa since 2014, supporting its growth in Uganda and across Africa.

Romeo Ronald: an open knowledge advocate and leader with Open Knowledge
South Sudan, working across OpenStreetMap, Wikimedia, and community media.
His work focuses on connecting experts and volunteers to build shared
public knowledge that supports human rights, education, and climate action.

Micheal Kaluba: a Wikimedia contributor from Uganda with a strong
interest in contributing to Wikipedia, as well as an active mapper with
OpenStreetMap Uganda.

Linguistic Ambassadors

Since 2024, Wiki Loves Africa has been supporting linguistic communities
through the Ambassador Programme, helping ensure that communication,
training, and participation reach every part of our diverse continent.
We’re continuing that support for 2026 and we’re looking for passionate
volunteers to join us!
As a Wiki Loves Africa Linguistic Ambassador, you’ll help strengthen the
campaign in your language community by supporting translation, outreach,
and engagement. Ambassadors will work closely with the international
organising team throughout the 2026 campaign to ensure that everyone
regardless of language can take part fully.
We are looking for volunteer ambassadors from English, French, Arabic and
Portuguese communities.
