Hi all,
Following a question at our grant application page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:Project/Rapid/WikiJournal_2018>,
I've asked the legal team whether they will want the WikiJournal trademark
to be a property directly of Wikimedia Foundation.
Best regards,
Mikael

Dear legal team,
The WikiJournal User Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiJournal_User_Group> is now a
registered non-profit organization in Sweden, and we are now applying for
funding for registering WikiJournal as a trademark in the United States.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/WikiJournal_2018>
Is is all right that this trademark belongs to the WikiJournal User Group
organization, or do you require it to belong directly to the Wikimedia
Foundation?
Best regards,
Mikael Häggström
Dear Crossref Support,
On behalf of the WikiJournal organization, we want to have our references
*open*.
Best regards,
Mikael Häggström

Subject: Update your setting for distribution of references under the new
policy

Dear Mikael,
Recently I wrote to you outlining the change to section 9b of the Crossref
membership agreement, which allows for more efficient distribution of
metadata, which in turn helps to increase discoverability of your content.
Following that we would like to notify you of the updated board policy
<https://outreach.crossref.org/acton/ct/16781/s-00f6-1710/Bct/l-0114/l-0114:…>
with respect to reference distribution.
Members deposit references with Crossref to enable the Cited-by service.
References are treated differently than all other metadata in how they are
distributed. Some members have recently decided to make their references
open
<https://outreach.crossref.org/acton/ct/16781/s-00f6-1710/Bct/l-0114/l-0114:…>
and references have also been distributed as part of "Enhanced Crossref
Metadata Services" for many years, which was subject to a case-by-case
opt-out that has now been phased out. As part of our new metadata delivery
options the board has approved a new, clearer policy on references.
This new policy will not change how you register content, nor will it
affect your fees in any way.
If you deposit references with us, you now have three options for how
Crossref does—or doesn’t—distribute the references:
1.
*Open:* references will be openly available through all Crossref APIs
and services.
2.
*Limited:* references will be available only to paying metadata service
users who sign an agreement with us. (This is the default)
3.
*Closed:* references will only be used in the Crossref Cited-by service.
*Because the default is Limited, no action is necessary on your part unless
you want to make your references Open or Closed.*
If you want to change your reference distribution setting to either Open or
Closed, please email us *by 1st December* to let us know if you're changing
your setting, for each of your prefixes <support(a)crossref.org>.
If you would like to know your current setting, please check this report of
publishers with open references
<https://outreach.crossref.org/acton/ct/16781/s-00f6-1710/Bct/l-0114/l-0114:…>.
If you are not on this list then your references are not open.
The new reference distribution policy is on our website
<https://outreach.crossref.org/acton/ct/16781/s-00f6-1710/Bct/l-0114/l-0114:…>.
We welcome your questions and feedback <support(a)crossref.org>.
Best regards,
Ginny

Hello all,
Now that the WikiJournal User Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiJournal_User_Group> has become an
organization of its own, it should now be our formal "publisher", that is,
the "institution" or "society" behind each journal. Wikimedia Foundation
was previously our "publisher", and is still our financial provider. An
immediate use of this change is for the contract sent from ScienceOpen,
which is now offering inclusion of WikiJournal of Medicine in their
database. It is to be completed on behalf of the publisher, so now we don't
need to have the contract formally approved by the board of trustees of the
Wikimedia Foundation
<https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Board_of_Trustees>, which would be a
much greater hassle than just signing it ourselves.
Best regards,
Mikael

Hi there!
We decided to give one of our free indexing waivers for the October
competition to the “WikiJournal of Medicine”.
Congratulations!
Before we can get things started, please sign the attached contract and
send it back to me. I am not sure if I picked the right address. Just let
me know if you need some changes to be done.
After that I will get you in contact with our tech team, and soon you will
have your own collection on ScienceOpen!

Hi all WikiJournal participants,
I received this message from Crossref (which manages the doi codes of our
journals) about whether we want to have our references open at their site,
which as I understand will be the article titles, authors, and journal
issues. Unless anyone has a reason to disagree, I will allow it to be open.
Best regards,
Mikael

Dear grants committee members,
I have now changed the grant application for WikiJournal to "proposed"
status:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/WikiJournal_2018
This grant is to cover the expenses of the project during the year 2018,
with expenses totaling $1342 (or $942 without an optional promotional
request).
Best regards,
Mikael Häggström
Hi all WikiJournal participants,
The year 2018 is no longer that far away and it's time to think about next
year's funding. I've now started a draft of a rapid grant to fund us
through next year:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/WikiJournal_2018
Now that WikiJournal as a whole is a non-profit organization we could add
funding for creating a bank account for the project for about $120, but as
the expenses are still relatively overseeable I can act as treasurer with
my private account, and keep the receipts until it's time to report.
Please add your ideas, other comments and/or simply support for the
application.
Best regards,
Mikael
