Dear all,
at the suggestion of Gwinyai I would like to discuss whether or not we
would include in our Author guidelines for future submission the advice
and/or requirement to authors to add a *Plain language summary*.
This has already been included in
https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/WikiJournal_of_Medicine/Images_of_Aerococcu…
; but many other recent articles don't have this.
I think in the spirit of Wikipedia and to make any topic accessible to the
widest possible audience I would welcome these. Several big journals
already use these e.g. Cochrane, JAMA, Ann Intern Med etc. have summaries
for patients. Only sometimes they are written by the authors themselves and
sometimes by the Editors/Journal.
I *support* adding Plain language summaries to the Author Instructions.
PS: I also added a topic for this discussion online:
https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Talk:WikiJournal_of_Medicine/Publishing#Pla…
with kindest regards,
Michaël
Hi WikiJournal participants,
I made an entry for WikiJournal in Wikimedia's strategy discussions, based
(in many cases copied - I hope you find it all right) on entries by Thomas,
James and myself:

Feel free to edit it further.
Best regards,
Mikael

tl;dr:
* Cycle 2 ends today, please upload your summaries.
* Cycle 3 runs from June 22-July 11, 2017
* You can still apply for funding for affiliate-led events with partner and
experts (until June 15), and we offer some quick turnaround funding for
affiliate-led events with your communities in cycle 3.
Dear Mikael,
I hope this email finds you well. We are only 8 weeks away from Wikimania,
and that means also 8 weeks away from a definition of Wikimedia's future
role in the world and a collaborative strategy to fulfill that role.
== Submit your summaries today! ==
Today, the second cycle of our movement strategy process comes to an end.
Please submit the summaries of your conversations today, by using the
source pages template: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_
movement/2017/Sources
== Cycle 3 ==
Cycle 3 will be running from June 22-July 11, 2017. In cycle 3, we will be
asking all of you to give feedback to a draft strategic direction, so that
we can finalize the it and then invite all organized groups to endorse it
before Wikimania.
This cycle will again allow for in-person as well as online conversations,
and we will share more details and tips shortly. We would like to encourage
you to already plan and schedule your affiliate’s conversations, as the
cycle is only 2.5 weeks long.
If you have already scheduled cycle 3 meetings according to the previous
timeline, please reach out to me so that we can see how to adapt the
conversation guideline accordingly.
== Affiliate-led events on movement strategy: For partners and (new!)
community ==
Until June 15, every affiliate that is interested in hosting an event to
discuss movement strategy with their partners and experts can apply through
this simplified and fast grant process: https://meta.wikimedia.org/
wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_2/Reach/Apply
Induced by feedback from some of you, we will now also be offering some
funding for affiliate-led meetings and workshops with your communities. If
you are interesting in hosting and organizing such an event in cycle 3
(June 22-July 11), please reach out to me directly so we can discuss the
process.
We appreciate all the feedback we have received so far, and we look forward
to the final discussions happening in the upcoming few days. Let me know if
you have questions, ideas or concerns. I am happy to support you on the way
to Wikimedia’s strategic direction.
Nicole

Dear all
I would like to point you to http://sci-hub.cc (also accessible from
http://80.82.77.83 ) from where you can access full text of subscription
journal articles without any charge. Let me also point that although
accessible from the US and most other parts of the world (barring the
institutions which block its access), the site not 'legal' in the US (and
hence uses foreign servers). Nevertheless, it is considered to be a gold
mine for academicians.
