Dear all,
After a productive meeting yesterday with a few members of the user group, we decided on next steps how to keep the official affiliation of the group with the WMF going forward.
One of the key elements is the annual reports. We need to maintain these and submit every year. They can be very very simple and short, but there is also opportunity to develop them into a good documentation resource for group activities.
Crucially, we want to encourage at least a few people to help maintain those as active / helpful documents, rather than just 1 or 2 people having to do it purely as an admin task in the end of the year.
Everyone in this group is welcome to add important events or discussions / outcomes that concern the whole group. The 2020 report has not been submitted yet, so you all still have a chance to contribute to it here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikibase_Community_User_Group/Reports/2020
And let’s get an early start on the 2021 report here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikibase_Community_User_Group/Reports/2021
Types of things that can go in the report pages include group meetings, significant announcements on the mailing list, in-depth discussions on the Telegram chat, etc. Community members are also encouraged to add their Wikibase projects or extensions, especially if it’s something that can help or has helped the whole user group through discussion on the chat, etc.. And we should be documenting discussions on desired features in the reports, too, because these could potentially justify WMF/WMDE contributions/assistance to the group in the future.
Let me know if there are any questions / concerns. There will be more announcements soon regarding the formal selection process for official user group contacts, so that the group keeps its status within WMF and continues to be a helpful place for everyone here :-)
Kind regards, Lozana (aka not an official group contact, but just a long-term group member)
